Last purchase for a while, lest my fiancee calls off the wedding.
653 Bob (renovated) with campy dropouts.
Should I go with some Dura Ace STIs I have, or with (I think classier) separate levers/shifters?
Please excuse the stem and bars, they're going, and new wheels are on their way.

ith (I think classier) separate levers/shifters?
Go with what feels best to use. I assumed this would automatically be STI's. But after using my DT shifter equipped bike for a year or so, and then getting a bike with STI's. I just cannot get used to them. They feel shit to me.
But you may be a more normal person, so probably STI's

which would probably be stis

Well, exactly. I'm more used to STIs but I already have a 653 roadie with STIs on so I might have to go 'classic' on this.
I do have some Campy ergos lying around, but the wheels coming are 6500 so 8/9 speed and the ergos are only 8, so will work with Shimano 7. -

I'm going to try a shorter stem, but I suspect that this bike is slightly too large for me.
This is a shame.
I'm sure we can fit a rack in your work room.

Or you could have bought the right wheels.

They are the right wheels. I have 90% shimano stuff, and this bike will be shimano. The ergos were just bought on a whim for very cheap and I'll sell them eventually.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, I think it looks better with separate levers anyway. -

I'm after a 56.5 TT alu beast for critting into the ground. Curious.

Though dammit is also Klein-Curious. -

Plenty of drop on those drops.

This one's next
got the groupset
got High Flange hubs (I like a high flange)
but..still no luck finding the right rims
came across some Ambrosio's, but the are anoidised red, with normal braking surface
I'd hate to got to the trouble of building the wheels, and then the colours look shite.
Maybe wait for a bit more to see what comes up -

conceded
these are what I want to use, less drop, 3ttt comp,
but the brake lever attachment bolts are damaged, so have to drill them out to cannibalize bars

And after an afternoon in the shed/garden, I have this.
Still not sure about the STI/separate levers quandry, but the wheels I'm getting have a 9 speed block on, so I can't use the STI with them anyway. Just need to decide what to do with the other 653 frame I bought recently.
Ugly ass chainring, but the original 600 one is nearly done. Might just stick it back on, it's not skipping or owt.
Components are 6500 wheels, 6400 rear mech, 7400 front mech, 6400 crankset, simplex downtube shifters and 105 brakes. Then Cinelli bars/stem.
I just hope the weather's good tomorrow so I can take it for a proper ride. Need to see if I get on with the brooks any better on a smaller bike (different crotch position) or whether I need to put a rolls on it.

I sort of saw this problem coming when I originally built my GF's bike for her but it was a cheap build and I threw it together with whatever parts I could get cheaply and easily, plus I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to bodging together old parts...
The bike is running 27" wheels and the rear has a maillard helicomatic hub and cassette. I've just had to replace the chain and predictably the new chain doesn't bind with the slightly worn cassette causing the chain to slip badly. NOS helicomatic cassettes seem rare and expensive so simply replacing the cassette isn't an option so I think I'm looking at replacing the wheel. 2nd hand options don't seem that easy to find (quick look on here, Hillary and Ebay) so what are my options for getting a new wheel?
SJS has a decent selection of 27" rims so that bit is easy, but what hub would people recommend? The current set up is a 5speed rear cassette, with Suntour VX RD. The cheapest rear hub on SJS is tiagra, but obviously that is a 10speed cassette - would this work with the existing derailleur?
If so then that makes everything easy. If not, any suggestions?

New front wheel, Paul laced to Velocity A23, would preferred the rims to be in silver but black is the only option.
Nice and wide thought, running the tyres (25c) at 75psi make it a lots more comfier on a track specific frame.
Plenty of room to spare;

I love my a23s ed.
Thinking of building another track bike again before long and theyll be on my list.

Yep, A23's are on my list (for Mack hub rebuild) but so are TB14's, Omega 'v's and good ol' Open Pro....
Been running a 25c Refuse on my open pro, but looks a nicer shape on the A23 you got there Ed.

Ah ha, saw you on this! Good day at HH, I was drinking in the sun rather than actually, ya know, getting any exercise.
