  • what cranks is that?

    cannot_tell_if_joking.jpg

It says Hollowgram Si on the crank arm?

thank you. that's easy but i am afraid it also needs respraying - too much rust...

  • liking it!

  • some progress on the Canyon. waiting for the kcnc BB86 adapter, test ride hopefully soon!

    wow! perfect ;)

  • wow the koga miyata is so perfect indeed! love that! what group you thinking, 600?

  • Thanks guys!
To be honest somethin completely inadequate - Campagnolo Chorus which I will take off my actual Racebike (so it's gonna be carbon and polished aluminium allover), BUT all "frame" components (stem, seatpost, handlebar, headset) are going to be Nitto, Sakae and Tange (handlebar is the classic drillium world custom).

  • Project 'bring brickman into the 20th century', with STI's and 700c wheels. yet another project on the go. Was hoping I could get it done in 24hrs, but might take a few days till some bits arrive, so will reside in the man shed till then.

Brifters were almost non-functional, they seem to have been lubricated with wd40 (or worse) and then left outside/ somewhere dusty, and the inevitable gunging happened.

Took a swift 28minutes to strip down to F&F, then a few hours with some serious degreaser (and pigeon shit remover). Awaiting a fresh stem from number6, some fresh gear outer (somehow I've used 50m of the stuff in the past 12months?) and fresh brake pads.

Frame has typically trek paint (poor) but is sound. wasn't anything fancy when it was new (£500 worth or so) but still.

I'd heard these 90s low end bikes were heavy, but I wasn't quite expecting it to be as heavy as it was. Then I realised, water bottle, was still full, of green stinking slime. Lovely.

  • That a MASH?

he sold his soul to the devil and bought a mash

Guilty.... and kind of ashamed with myself. But after 70 miles on it today I'm pretty happy.

    So out with the old

    and in with the new...

Need to ride it more and figure out what bars I'm gonna run before sorting out stem/spacer situation.

Big thanks to Hobo for the frame and Xander for being the coolest dudz and picking it up for me.

  • current project- 1999 (or 00) Ibis Hakkalugi
Purchased with - Paul High Flange Single speed Hubs, Paul neo-retro brakes, Paul Melvin chain tensioner
WTB Rims and bars, FSA seatpost and FSA K Force Cranks (problem with the non-drive side crank - with a couple of mm play, would like to solve....) - just had to sort out the cabling, tape, seat, and figure out if I will run SS, Two or 8 speed.

Not decided if I will run two speed with current hubs and 8 speed DA bar end shifter and a front derailler I have laying around - or get another set of wheels and run 8 speed. Have an XTRM900 derailleur and cassette - just need wheels, preferable tubular to race cross on when the season comes.

Been out on the bike a few times in the last week and like the ride thusfar

any tips on gearing setup or solving the lose non-drive side issue are welcome

  • Lipstick on a pig?!

    ;)

  • on non drive side crank, try rotating it to one of the other 3 positions on the BB spindle.
I've got a crankset with one set of bad faces, turned both arms +90degrees and problem solved.
if not, then likely damaged tapers (happens almost instantly if crank comes loose during a ride, I killed a brand new truvativ husselfelt crank arm in a few hundred yards riding it loose) in which case, replacement arm needed!
    And flip that stem!

  • on non drive side crank, try rotating it to one of the other 3 positions on the BB spindle.

Is it square taper? ISIS seems more likely.

Which way is the play? Is at a degree of rotation relative to the spindle or some axial movement at the pedal end, or a mixture of thee two? Not that I have any answers, beyond "buy new cranks and BB", but neither does anybody else without knowing what is moving and it which direction.

  • Recently bought this Abilita frame. Intending on dong it up as a road bike. Can't find any information on the builder and slightly confused about the tubeset. Lastly, slight concern about the bottom bracket cable routing rust...

Any help with any of the above appreciated.
NB. Tubeset sticker says the following:

    TUBI SPECIALI SUPERBUTTED
    ACCIAIO CROMO CYCLEX
    RIVERNICATO
    RINFORZI ELICOIDAI???

Any help on any of the above much appreciated.

Your right, will be ISIS! But you can bugger up ISIS just as easy
Is the bolt bottoming out, do you have a washer under the bolt, are there any forging/ manufacturing /swarf in the ISIS drive on the inside of the crank arm?

@ THEEB. BB shells are cast, the cable guide will be brazed on the top. AFAIK the cable guide could turn into dust and the BB shell should be alright.

Actually in the second to last photo there appears to be a crack between the two, I would clean it up with a wire brush and have a really good look into the crack, where it goes to, how deep (use invert on micrometer, or feeler gauges) etc and work out if the crack has penetrated the BB shell.

  • TUBI SPECIALI SUPERBUTTED
    ACCIAIO CROMO CYCLEX
    RIVERNICATO
    RINFORZI ELICOIDAI

Most of that is in English, but ACCIAIO=steel and RIVERNICATO=re-finished

The maker's label might be the shop who had it repainted rather then the actual builder

No need to be ashamed, If I could afford it I would. And I'm sure a few other would too! I like it stripped to bare metalz!!!!!

Yeh it's come out pretty nice, gonna be a bugger to keep shiny though tempted to clear powder coat it, will see how I do.

Will try get Corima photo 2mo.

  • Thought I'd add some more detail:

    Jelly! Nice are they?

  • Update to the Lavoro. Lost a few spacers, flipped the stem, new saddle.

Spent a lot of time fiddling with it today, to eliminate a persistent creak. I'm pretty sure it's still there, but I'm full of cold and can't go out and ride to find out. In fact I regret spending so long working on it, I feel terrible now.

Not sure about the sold carbon SLR... never ridden a plastic saddle before, my arse may disagree with it.

Re. the crack - do you mean here...:

no, but thats also worth checking out.
crack i can see is well defined, in the centre of photo almost right at the bottom. it might be an exposed edge of the cable guide part.
i would think about taking it to an experienced frame builder for their opiniob as there are hair line marks in the paint all over that shell. do not remove bb just yet, if there is a problem that might make it worsr

  • in anticipation of a new mtb project i just bought a pair of these
