Is it square taper? ISIS seems more likely.
Which way is the play? Is at a degree of rotation relative to the spindle or some axial movement at the pedal end, or a mixture of thee two? Not that I have any answers, beyond "buy new cranks and BB", but neither does anybody else without knowing what is moving and it which direction.
Lipstick on a pig?!
;)
the ibis? I am not certain the frame is exactly a pig - but I do enjoy the saying :)
The play on the cranks is vertical and horizontal - rotation relative to the spindle and axial - 1-2 mm. Fucking annoying it is. I assumed the answer is to buy new cranks - just dont want to do that just yet.... The splines look to be fine - so my fist impression was that I was missing a washer or otherwise - and if I look at the bolt on the non-drive side crank, I assume the previous-previous owner had the same issue as it looks pretty chewed up and he must have tried tightening to no avail... The guy I bought it off never rode it - it was too small for him, so he wasnt aware of the issue.
Anyway - I will try to find an assembly diagram for the cranks to see if I am missing anything in the assemble, failing that - get new cranks.

Love this! Always had a soft spot for those frames and they just work built with all black components, such a great Logo.

50% off
The thing with FSA is that nobody in their right mind would pay the rrp, the whole brand policy is to put stuff into the aftermarket channel at huge prices to make the OEM fitment of their parts look good on OTPs. They are the 'premium' brand of http://www.thindustries.com.tw/, which is why budget FSA cranks usually say RPM on the back.
It's well worth googling Tien Hsin :-)

Taiwanese M/S/A. I don't think she owns the industrial company with which she shares her name.

Was on a mobile phone, could not see the make on the arm!

Finally got this in a rideable state. Took enough time.
I had planned on using the limit screws to pick a gear on the cassette that I could put up with single-speed as a stop-gap before getting some shifters. What I didn't realise was that the limit screws only give you about 10mm adjustment. I ended up doing a wee trick I found on t'internet of putting a very short gear cable through the barrel adjuster of the derailleur and clamping it.
The 34T will be getting replaced by a 42T sometime this week hopefully.
Oh, one more thing. She currently weighs in at a rather nice 8.5kg

Posted this a while ago but nearly, nearly finished it. Thankfully realised that I didn't need to buy a new rear wheel and could just respace the XT wheel I bought originally. Then had to redish it, something I'd never done before.
Just waiting for a nice set of cantis to turn up on ebay or here and it should be good to go. Oh, and it's going to need a respray at some point as there's some surface rust.
Total build was <£100 (with some bits I already had lying around/came from other bikes/freecycle) and I'm pretty happy with it, to be honest.
Check out those Lidl panniers as well.

Just arrived. Either gonna take the group from another bike and sell that frame of build it from scratch. Never had 653 before!
Ah!! So it was you that outbid me. I wasn't about otherwise that would have been mine ;-)
A very nice bargain, do it justice.

I've just finished this, I know this isn't really the right place for a BMX, but it is both SS and CP.
Bought from a dude who clearly had never heard of maintenance, this had seen better days, but being made from girders meant that it was rescuable with little more than grease, new cables and fresh pads. And obviously the time in which I should have been putting up some curtains...
I might have a freshly running bike, but the neighbours can still see my bits each morning...

haha asian model came up first. funny that theres a taiwanese company selling more or less the same kit, it seems more and more are coming to my attention all the time. honestly i would usually go Shimano all the way but the reduction is so good -better than staff discount- and i know i wouldn't get anything of a similar level usually for that price certainly not an XTR chainset and ceramic BB. better than XTR according to the reviews. we shall see...

It's not a "Taiwanese company selling more or less the same kit", FSA is just an American sounding brand name invented by Tien Hsin Industries to break into a US market which is resistant to Chinese sounding brand names.

FSA's marketing model claims another victim. Since everything is marked up by 100% to make it look better than it is, a 50% discount off rrp on FSA kit just means you pay what it's really worth. Given FSA's notoriety for owning Italian scales, the cheaper SRAM X9 is probably lighter too

Nice Pug. You must be pretty far North, where abouts?
Sick a dog right now, just cycled back from Edwardes and collapsed into bed yesterday, will report back once I've got better.
