  • Then get a better saddle you tart!

If only you could see my collection. The Flite Trans Am is possibly the best I've found, only close competitor is a Rolls, but not for such an aggressive position.

  • Still waiting on new rear wheel... but almost done. Think black 75s are going to have to wait as I'm brassic now!

  • I understand that much. I just don't understand why.

Theres less to strike your knees on, and you get a pure carbon stem section. As this niether saves weight, adds stiffness over alu, our adds compliency. I'm also unsure. Bling factor?

For lightness and knee friendliness in one.

  • My girlfriends been whinging about her bike recently (quite rightly too, it's a piece of shit). So I thought I'd build her one. She's had a blast on my bike which is an SE Lager but didn't find it very comfortable. Does anyone have any ideas on a frame/saddle/bars for more of a relaxed comfortable ride? Even better if you're selling any parts like this.

I'd find a small* half decent vintage road bike, mixti, or step though bike (ie complete) with horizontal dropouts. Then add cheap north road bars from SJS (and possibly a short SA stem).

Then depending on the quality of the wheelset, either go SS and keep them (just switching the freewheel for an SS one) or ditch them and build on-one hubs /aci DB spokes / Rigida Snyper / bontrager race lite hardcase in 28c.

For the saddle there's a page on the ladies forum, but from a guess I'd say the Charge Bucket is cheap should be comfortable and comes in colours. These grips are also meant to be good and come in colours.

*edit - size is obviously relative to your GF's height, but IME girls that don't ride much don't like high standover heights, and also it looks like a faff from a skirt POV. Also remember that if you use swept back bars like the north roads then the reach shrinks. If you want less extreme sweep then any old risers from halfords or a bike jumble would be good.

  • Spotter what's the size of that frame? I could be interested if you fancy selling.

sorry i didn't see this earlier, its 62cm, but there is one other person ahead of you in the queue sorry.

  • going on a great deal of 'yes' from various forumengers, I got some imitation Benotto tape, and despite looking kind of right in the photo, its waay too orange in comparison to the other bits of yellow on the build

thus I've ordered so tressorex cotton tape (cheaper that the newbaums), scoble be praised.

also rather like doing the tape in the 'merckx' style, (backwards, no sticking tape on the tops) anyone had any experience with how long it stays neat for?

Spotter, I reckon this shiny orangey stuff would look great on the Alvarez if you built it up with chrome parts...

  • It could do yeah, but it looks like it offers zero padding, I was thinking about using dark grey fizik microtex soft touch

  • sounds fancy.. yeah, theres no padding whatsoever.

  • ^^^ The tape should stay in place provided you wrap towards the stem first and then go back on yourself so that you have a kind of "under-wrap." That's what I did with some Benotto and it held up fine on a beater for years.

Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad as you'd expected it to be, I rode with similar bartape for quite a while (before swapping them with cotton tape), and was fairly comfortable, i'd worry about your position rather than how much padding there is on the handlebar.

  • Don't some people put some sort of resin over the tape, or am i thinking of cloth tape?

  • shellac* and twine

    *sp?

  • I want (never gets):

    Cannondale SuperSix Evo Disc
    SRAM Red Disc groupset
    Hollowgram SiSl Cranks with SRM
Zipp Firecrest 606 disc specific wheelset
    3T Ltd finishing kit

  • It's not an arms race, just enjoy the bicycles you've got dammit.

  • Got one of these arriving in a few months, think I ordered it in October and there is currently a 6 month waiting list. Gonna build it up on some carbon rims and some hip risers, I can't wait!

  • Who did the welds? David Blunkett??

I invented the frame, and some of the rest is theoretical.

Just putting together a wish list in case Santa reads this thread.

  • I want:

    Paid employment

    ftfy

  • Hah!

Yeah, that's a priority for sure

  • I had an interview today, got another one tomorrow, and one lined up for Monday also.

    I will get 2012 Red.

  • Well, it's not that pretty but if it works then that's cool.

  • If you put some glue on the bare handlebars before you wrap Benotto (or imitation) bar tape, it's going to stay for sure, no matter what direction you wrap.
It's what I did on my last builds.

Resin over bar tape = shellac over cloth tape. I did that to my Alan Pista. Works, looks and feels great.
Takes about a month for the whole process. Lasts for years.

The Newbaums and the cheapo cloth tape from Condor both have sticky backs. It stays in place fine.
