Got a bit of a problem on my new build. Frame is a Canyon Ultimate AL and the groupset is Ultegra 6600. The cablestops on the frame are mounted on the headtube and I can't figure out how I'm supposed to route the cables in a way that allows me to turn the handlebars to the right...
Picture with the wheel turned slightly to the right (left on the pic):

How much rotation do you have before the caliper adjuster hits the rear mech cable adjuster?
(Which I assume is what is happening)
-
• #56104
It doesn't hit it - There's 2-3 mm space between them. The problem will be the cables...

Once the cables are mounted, the caliper will be a bit more compressed, so the cable adjuster will be further towards the center. It still looks like it will be a problem, though...

Put a washer or 2 in to space the caliper out no?

That because you don't have a brake cable running through.
edit - what JesperXT said.

I don't think spacing it out will help much. The cables will still block turning right.
Btw: The brake cable will go to the left lever and the cables will be Yokuzuna Reaction -

I think when you've got it all wired up it will be less of an issue...
Or just don't turn.

Cable it and see- if it's still an issue then I am sure it can be dealt with.

Also, the silver barrel will sit further into the black adjuster when it's all set up too won't it?
-
• #56112
Nope, the silver barrel stays where it is then goes further out as you wind out the adjuster. I have the same adjuster on my brakes.

googled canyon bike, those cables look fairly well apart, are you missing a spacer / washer?
-
• #56114
The arms will be closer together though, so it will be lower down, cabled.

I'll try it out later this weekend and see what happens. Looks ok in those pics...

Some may remember i asked about SPD pedals a few pages back
since that i have been told that mtb shoe's on a road bike are shit compared to road shoe's, which puts me in a spot of bother, basically, i will need to walk around a bit when i ride around on my road bike
some opinions or advice on either would be great, thanks :)

Road pedals offer marginally more comfort and (maybe) efficiency at the expense of being easy to walk in. So whichever you're happiest with really. It's not a problem walking from cafe counter to table in road shoes, but much more is annoying.
I like look keos on the geared road bike and atacs on the fixed road bike and mtb.

@Aches and pains - who are you talking to about this? It sounds like you're either getting the hard sell or you're talking to a die hard roadie.
SPDs are good pedals and offer a range of shoes to attach your cleats to.
The only difference is the float on the cleat i.e how much you can rotate your foot. This affects the comfort and efficiency of pedalling.
If I were you I'd stop deliberating and try something out. You can only base so much of a decision on rhetoric and if you're upgrading from straps or flats, anything will be a big improvement.

By somebody who didn't know what they were talking about.
"MTB shoes" is a description covering a wide range of footwear, but the better XC shoes are basically identical soles and uppers to corresponding road shoes plus some tread blocks and different drilling. The penalty compared with the equivalent road shoe is a bit more weight, and maybe a bit less roll stability due to the narrow pedal platform although that depends on exactly which pedals you compare and might not bother you anyway.

Yup thats the same one... Had Keith do the repaint... We couldn't work out who built it
Love it :)

If you're going to be doing any walking at all get the mtb pedals. Some poseurs will sniff at anything not designed for the road on a road bike but I wouldn't worry about it.

got the bullet shifters and dp22's for the mtb
just waiting for gearing and drive
