that option would be easier, but my preferred way is to match the decals.

Freecycled cranks to replace the cheese Stronglights - will they get me to Essex this weekend...

Just put this together as my first fixie. Got the frame from my brother-in-law in 1997, built it up then as a road bike, but when I got a new bike it got hidden at back of the garage. So I've just stripped all the bits off, Campag Veloce, which will go on ebay. Got a few bits off the net and found some stuff lying around and got it rolling. Long term I will get the frame powder coated and repalce and/or upgrade the other parts.

Nice bike! Bar tape and foot retention would be good though....
Don't powder coat whatever you do, paintjob is a bit tatty sure but it's a decent frame, looks better as is

+1 million on not powder coating the cinelli, If you don't like it I'm sure you could easily sell on here as is and buy a very nice track frame with the cash..

^^^ Or even fork out the cash to get it restored properly.

Whoa, ok it stays as is. I knew it was a good frame but I did think it would be that good. I s'pose cause I got it for nothing I didn't realise the value. I've got a new brake lever on the way, then I'll get some new pedals, tyres and bar tape and leave it at that.
I'll post a pic again when I get it done.
Thanks for your feedback.

I bought this f+f, not sure why really. I just ran a credit card down the forks and basically stripped them of paint so at least it has that going for it. No idea what it is as of yet

So today I've taken delivery of these lovely levers courtesy of Mr b'jammin.
Like all half decent levers they are sans return spring. I was contemplating getting some S900s at some point so had this in mind...
I was thinking about a bodge to work on a lever without springs and thought about threading a small amount of brake cable through the lever with maybe 2cms sticking out the back, putting a small diameter but long spring on there (like those you get in a biro but tougher), compressing that spring and crimping a brake cable end on to hold the spring in tension.
Anyway, had a go tonight and it's worked quite well.
I gutted a biro for the spring (kept the parts though, could be a restoration project in the future).
Inserted a brake outer cable ferrule into the hole from the back and threaded a cable through:
Trimmed the cable down a bit after trying the spring for size
Compressed the spring and crimped a cable end on. This picture shows how relatively unobtrusive it is with the hood back in place.
Here's gravity being defeated by a biro spring
And for further proof it works:

(I did have to test it a full six times in case you ask)
I'll be trying it out on the clacton ride on sat so the proof will be then. If I pulled the lever hard it would definitely pop the cable end off, but I suppose I'd rather damage that than my lever! Plus, I'm used to riding with one connected lever only anyway.

Brake lever biro spring bodge
Excellent, thank you for detailing that - I'm about to attempt the same on an S500 so it's good to know it works.

No worries - it's pretty easy to be honest. In fact I did it twice because I wasn't concentrating and accidentally did the right lever first...
I would have said a black saddle and yellow bar tape would look nice. In keeping with the frame paint
