  • Maybe I'm being silly but what's to stop the custom one from moving within the steerer tube?
If I really wanted to shave grams I could remove the expander and cap once the bearings have been correctly loaded. There's that practicallity issue again though.

  • Shock news just in- I have been wearing out the rear tyre on the CX bike by (my God!) riding it a lot, so have put slicks on it in order to make it go faster and save the last of the CX tyre:

I've put Randonneur cross on mine, durable but enough grip to get away with a bit of off road, as long as it aint too wet.

  • My current project - a 60s Claud Butler Olympic road/track frame. I stole my brothers 27" wheelset and shoved it on to see how it looked but the clearances are far too small for mudguards...I think it was made for 700c wheels and 'sensible' (25/28ish) sized tyres for the road with sprints for the track.

Mudguards schmudguards... looks awesome with those clearances... 27s FTW and live with soggy pants.

  • You'll be happy to know it should get a bit lighter soon. I've got some parts on the way from Smud Carbon, and trimming the steerer tube will take 20+ grams off.
I might look into getting some Powercordz or i-link cables, though my Gore Ride-On cables work perfect for the time being. I think it could do with some black chainrings for aesthetic purposes.

    What size is it?

  • Medium, it has an effective top tube length of 55.5cm. The seattube C-T is 50cm due to the compact geometry.

  • It does look good, I got mine to the UCI limit (if I took the bottle cages and GSC-10 off, that is), and I know it takes a lot of planning and consideration when choosing parts.

I set myself the condition that nothing could have a weight limit, so parts like Speedplay Zeros with Ti axles were ruled out as they have an 85kg limit, despite that being a lot more than I weigh.

I think MDCC tester is right- it's easy to get obsessed with chasing a lower and lower weight, but it you start to impact on reliability then you've probably lost more than you've gained.

That said, if you can lose weight with no impact on strength or lifespan of the part in question then go for it.

I put my training wheels on (Open Pros with 7800 hubs) and the bike gained just under a kilo- but training on 50mm deep carbon rims running tubular tyres is probably not a great idea.

Come the time when I mean it, however...

  • A weight limit for pedals? wtf? Surely if they had a weight limit for the pedals then each rider must take a ramp test before he's allowed to use them

  • Invalidates the warranty if you use them and your rider weight (so I'm assuming they count clothing/bag and so on) is above 85kg.

I'm 76-77kg, so I'd have to be carrying the weeks shopping with me, but still- I didn't want to have to stand on some scales before getting on the bike.

  • My next project started this week:

First bits by Cedric design, on Flickr

  • Found this on eBay, won for £67. 653 frame & forks, Campag dropouts and Cinelli BB shell.

67 pounds? I hate living in the middle of Canada.

  • 67 pounds? I hate living in the middle of Canada.

Yeah, the jammy bugger, it's worth twice that I reckon. The seller was also about two streets away from where he lives.

  • The crosstop lever will be fine. internal cable routing is no problem.

Because the internal bit is just like an extension of the cable outer, right? Stupid brain.

  • Received this from HilaryStone today, very pleased with it - much lighter and shinier than i thought!

Put some bits on it to see what it will look like - the wheels should give away my intentions - will be building this up for tri/tt purposes (ignore the bars/stem - these were to keep the bike steady while i was screwing the bb in...and to ride down the road! They will be replaced with something more tt orientated!)

Loving the sound of the disc already! Wopwopwopwop :)

  • Bought this yesterday:

A 1998 Peugeot Competition 7000 made from Columbus Brain OS. Was born with Veloce, but I'm going to put on an Ultegra 6500 group with some blue Open Pros to Ultegra hubs. I guess gumwalls would be period correct, but gumwalls on*** blue rims?***

  • It would be period correct...

  • I weight my Colnago yday and came down to 7.2 kg, can shave off loads,
especially with the wheels at 1650g (w/o tires/cassette).

Bar tape is now black, looks so much better!

    To be done;

    • New Fizik Aroine CX carbon (this one is broken in half after 2 years haha)
    • Zero Gravity brakes
    • Yokozuna cable set
    • Bebop/speed play pedals
    • Sram red cassette 11-23
    • Sram red black chainring maybe
    • Carbon bottle cages
    • Thomson setback seat post/ random stem (not a fan of ritchey wcs stuff)
    • New wheel set

I'm not going to be weight weenie-ing with ti bolds and stuff, above changes are mainly
ecstatically, since I weigh 96kg (6'6 something) and can shave off most by training dry
    myself first.

  • Maybe I'm being silly but what's to stop the custom one from moving within the steerer tube?

    Araldite

  • why don't you get rid of all the screw on your bike and use araldite instead, you won't even have to worry about torque any more.

In the cold light of day, you'll wish you could go back and edit that to include either some sense or some wit.

  • tester gets up for an early hour pork pie again.. only to be distracted by the internet.

  • A quick mock-up:

Not a perfect match, but I think it'll do for now....

My dad got a bollocking when he bought one of those in '99 without consulting the wife.

I really want one in my size.

    True story.

    naaaah

    it plays dub step?

  • I thought a disc would be more like throat singing
