  • bombers have a long axle to crown but a pair of 100mm fox's would be bob-on without ripping the headtube off. arse in the air twitchy mtb'ing is for yesteryear or roadies who race xc

  • I think my spokes may be too long? Can't seem to get the nipples all the way in the hole or proper tension. Pretty sure it's laced right...?

I used the calc online and dt swiss and got the same 288 (14mm nippes) Gran compe 36h to mavic open pro. dt swiss comp spokes

anyone able to advise? Maybe i just need to spend more time on it. Should there be thread showing on the spokes once tight?

  • Finished commuter/light touring bike.

Looks very nice. Is that a Raleigh head badge?

  • ^^ are you following a video?

There should be no threads showing once they're at full tension.

There's also some useful videos here: http://www.lfgss.com/post1083482-25.html

  • Yup following the video of the funny dude with glasses(the bike tube)/looking at sheldons guide.

Seem to have sorted it, changed a nipple that wasn't tightening to another one and it's tightened up, guess it was slipping beyond the thread.

    /noob. Thanks

  • Finished commuter/light touring bike.

I like this. Dead smart in black, and very, very British*

    *needs a Brooks Team Pro.

  • old news now, but I'm liking the polo bike.

  • @miro_o Well lets see... Like I said - it's a way off before I make that decision.

I've been reading up about the Alura's/Radacs, apparently designed by Grant Petersen - they look really good stripped back too: http://www.the-climb.net/2010/08/bridgestone-radac.html

  • F H Grubb time.

I only just clocked this. Lovely. Mine has the same fork but I think it's from slightly later in the 50s. And it hasn't had such a good respray.

  • Got the Duell back on the road all that's needed now to finish it is a Quill Stem and bars to match.....

It rides like a dream and i'm well impressed with it.

i think that looks really nice -what are those handlebars btw?

  • it's not that long. head angles have got slacker and slacker over the last 5 years. hardly anyone does more than 70° unless you are an xc racer

ok you're right i'm wrong, That bike looks perfectly suitable for a 68 degree HA. sorry i spoke. carry on.

  • i would ride it like i stole it.
according to orange the 99 clockwork is o.k. up to 100mm

  • In an attempt to get into mountain biking...
Just finished my orange clockwork 1999. XT, HOPE with EASTON EA50. Will be hitting the trails tomorrow.

Got to be RC35's, or some Manitou's, maybe the original gold RockShox at a stretch?

  • not in 1999 :)

  • Rock Shox Mag 21? ;)

    not in 1999 :)

  • maybe the original gold RockShox at a stretch?

What Murtle said, and the original rockshox were black. :]

  • They were rubbish though, the gold ones were the first good ones.

  • not in 1999 :)

I didn't realise it was so recent, I was thinking 95/6

  • all forks were shite back then

  • But the RC35's looked awesome

lol its aluminium. and built around 700c. fail

    read the reviews - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mongoose-Detain-700cc-Men-s-Street-Bike/15711162

people complaining about it just for light street use. polo? what a fucking joke.

had the same thing happen to me. luckily i changed the lacing pattern and it worked itself out. or use longer/shorter nipples....

pretty sure tester was implying just the frame could have been used and it would have been much cheaper than building your own.

  • I'm pretty sure I was just randomly taking the piss, the bent seat tube on that BSO is not fully exploited to shorten the chainstays, which seems to have been a major preoccupation on the Polorrell

  • or that
