  • starting a new build for my wife - tourer!

early 90's Bob Jackson Audax Club, 531 competition tubing. paint missing/rusty in a few spots, but she (sensibly) doesn't want a 'new' looking bike, so colour matched touch-up paint from BJ is on its way.

and a hint at a long term project (frame isn't ready for the viewing public just yet)

  • ^^Real nice sir!

Similar to my build so far!

  • Beautiful Itaian track bike - tell me more, tell me more - where did you find it, how much did it cost, what year is it, have you restored it and what parts are you to fit ???

Personally, I'm not convinced that's a Colnago frame. Look at the quality of the edges of the headtube lugs...

  • to be honest my colnago looks shaby close up

As far as I know it is. Probably not one of the high end models of the day but still a Colnago nether the less. Very similar to this lovely Super Track on flickr Colnago Super Track: 004 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

It has the clover shape cut out of BB shell and headtube lugs plus the Colnago 'C' stamped in the fork bridge so if it is a fake someones gone to a lot of trouble...

Here it is in its original condition:

  • i'm no expert, but it looks like a colnago to me!

  • I'm no expert, and i don't know if it is or not, but what I don't get is how people can say it is not just for one pic.

  • well...there are 4 pics. and there's no real way of knowing (unless perhaps you work fopr colnago). nevertheless, it looks like a colnago to me!

  • looks like one to me, frame number should be on the right rear drop out?

  • 99% sure that is a 1970's Colnago mexico

  • Swoon.

  • I picked this dying baby up for 3 quid off the scraps today and thinking of bringing her back to life. I want to hear your suggestions, I want to hear what you'd do with it.
I also have no idea what the bike is, found no markings on the frame but i presume this is a 1970's frame with random new bits stuck to it? No front derailleur, single chainring at the front (no idea how many teeth yet) and five sprocket casette at t'back.

Anyway, i want to hear your suggestions, fixed geared ss what should it be?

  • Keep the frame. Doubt much else is rescuable. SS/fixed whichever you want. May want a respray?

    no way, an SS/fixed would look wrong, especially with the super relaxed gemority, best to restore it, or at least turn it into a really nice town utility bike (with basket, a bit like this);

  • Neatly cover the frame in tweed.

  • nice torch. :)

  • Ed is that a torch clip on the front rack?

hey, that looks like my old badge, are you the guy who works in Cavendish Cycles W1?

  • Eddie, £3, 3 speed. Stick a SA hub in there and it'll be a perfect beater that will also get you to Brighton (and back) no problems.
Internal gearing is the new big thing.

it's from Freshtripe, and yet, it is.

  • cheers Ed.

  • :) cheers for the suggestions, i am thinking of giving it a respray, but not sure cause the paint is rather great condition actually and i like the old school look of those lug highlights. Any colour suggestions? maybe ill change me mind

oh and making it into a 3speed is a good idea, was thinking of that. It also has a pump holder, maybe have to find a suitable pump for it:)

No to the respray, give it a bloody good clean, some t-cut and then a damn good polish. Bit of elbow grease will bring that up a treat.

As for the pump, there are vintage ones available on t'bay for a fiver.
