  • thank god she's to big for me... i'm in love for her... it will be very hard for me to give her back to her owner if she was a 54

Where the fuck is she? all I'm seeing is a bicycle and bits.

  • 2 months ago a friend of mine asked if it was possible for me to work with this **rodaplana **("she" did the 1981 volta a portugal. I think it was 81). She spent her last 15 years with dust and without seing the road). She was like this

She had a full dura-ace group but my friend also gave me this

his father was the professional rider of "her" and he have alot of dura-ace components (NOS) at home. I think he was paid with components at that time...

after alot of work she turned out like this

thank god she's to big for me... i'm in love for her... it will be very hard for me to give her back to her owner if she was a 54

    love it

  • So, should I get rid of the drops, move the bar-end shifters to the downtube (do I need new ones?) and keep the hood levers?

Corks are from champagne at Tweed Run!

  • Sparky, you don't need to change your shifter, there are some handlebar that'll be perfectly fine with a bar end shifter.

    here's an example;

The advantage of this set-up is that you can revert back to your drop bar, which I'm sure you'd rather have since you're simply experimenting different bar set-up.

also you may need a longer stem to compensate.

  • These are my bar-end shifters. Can I just take these off, remove the plug and mount them on the down tube?

Then I can get rid of the drops and use the same levers like this.

And to finish off, stick these Tweed Run champagne corks in the end.

What do you reckon? Or should I just leave it as it is?

  • Would you like to try out the Nitto Moustache bar? I have one going spare.

  • Maybe, but this steel thing is free/right there in the garage now. Don't you think this would be nice? Now I have a flat-out roadie I don't need this to be so speedy. I've taken the SPDs off so I can ride in any shoes, and fancy being a tad more upright.

  • done in two afternoons. total cost about 100 usd.

  • added rack, bartape and bell.

    semi-beater completed;

Can you tell me what rack this is?

  • done in two afternoons. total cost about 100 usd.

I just saw that on Flickr and got meself a boner.
I wanna build something like that, like yesterday.
    For you?
    That looks like 26", amirite?
    What's the make please?

Who said that you have to pay for the moustache bar?

Front QR is fitted in the wrong way ;P

Pretty unusual frame that. The extra tubes and geometry make it look like a carrera subway zero. But its steel?

And it has a U-brake on the back but canti stud on the front?

  • Front QR is fitted in the wrong way ;P

I've had a customer who came in the shop, and while near the mechanic stand, he clocked my bike (which was just been finished), went over to it, and flip the wheel the right way round.

it remind me of this popular Apollo bicycle back in the 90's, perhaps an American equative?

  • Who said that you have to pay for the moustache bar?

Loan to try it? I'm in Norwich now. Generous, though.

  • pm'd me your address and I'll send it as soon as possible.

  • And it has a U-brake on the back but canti stud on the front?

Makes sense, the U-Brake is there for heel clearance

  • Friggin' love ebay sometimes - 853 Condor for child-towing duties. Clearly too small for me, but loads of fun to chuck about

  • Oh my that Condor is awesome.

shame they don't make MTB anymore.

  • And to finish off, stick these Tweed Run champagne corks in the end.

FYI Prosecco is not from Champagne, it's Italian not French.

It's a GT Arette. My guess is late 90's. made from steel. no idea what exactly but i think it is some species of Tange. It has 700c wheels. Yes very odd to have canti studs on front with U on back. Those bars, stem and levers are actually amateur porn and cost me nearly 70 of the 100 bucks.

no it's not for me. It's very small, even with 700c wheels. my knees hit the bars.

Ed the frame is much much much nicer than whatever that is.

  • New ride, frame is unknown with what looks like powder coat on.

Velo Orange cranks, PBP / Origin 8 wheelset. nitto pearl stem/ b 83 seatpost. Strange Rolls seat, but feels great.

Rides very well and will eventually upgrade to suntour cranks.

ok not current project, but this is my brother, and here is riding it the other night when we were out. about two drinks later i cut him off accidentially and he went soaring through the air to smack pavement. walked away, thank god.

  • So, my first build complete! It's an old Raleigh Mixte that started life like this, plus lots of rusty ol' bits...

After a powdercoat and a few new/2nd hand bits she looks like this...

It rides beautifully and is totally silent. Only problem was using brake cable that was too short. Unfortunately, it's my flatmates now... My Leader frame is complete now though, so that'll be up here soon.

  • Lovely build Fixed Cheese - if it helps this was my other half's old bike - a completely original 80s BSA made by Raleigh that shows off the rear brake cable routing.
