  • I ordered a Gusset converter set (the blasphemy!) which should work with 9/10spd Campa, but can't get the lockring on (the 10spd hub), even though both thread on hub as well as lockring look fine?

Are you trying to put a Shimano lockring on a Campag freehub?

  • ^^ very nice work! like the levers as they are... white keirin grips on the bars instead of bartape I dare suggest? pedals: the shimano (or copy) concave parallellogram type bmx pedals maybe?

  • Coppi almost done:

I've got a shorter stem coming in, either remove or replace wheel decals, then put on bartape and work out how I can get the lockring onto the hub; I ordered a Gusset converter set (the blasphemy!) which should work with 9/10spd Campa, but can't get the lockring on (the 10spd hub), even though both thread on hub as well as lockring look fine?

Not sure on levers and chainring yet, but can't seem to find a 135bcd 48t roadversion..
Recommendations on pedals? Preferably regular double sided ones.

    WOW!!! I love it ;)

  • Cheers, Noca. :)

Nah, it says Campa on the lockring and a Shimano is quite a bit smaller, right?
Just spoke to previous owner, who as well rode with a Gusset converter and he had no problems, so I guess it's just the lockring I've got with it..
Went to the lbs to try and test it with a regular one, but they didn't have any laying around. Wut?

Thanks, Peter. For now I'll stick with the tape - looks a bit more right, I suppose.
That's why those bmx pedals aren't really what I'm looking for either..

  • if I had to chose between the lo pro and the conversion on top of this page on the base of aesthetics alone, Id choose the conversion. I dont get the appeal of these bikes set up like that for street use at all

  • @ Björn: Alu Lyotard rat trap pedals for Cyclocross. Or a copy.

  • Cheers, Noca. :)

There's 2 types of campag lockring, a 26mm and 27mm I think. The smaller one went on ealry versions of 9s. Part number is CS-201.

  • That coppi needs drops

  • +1

    Begging for them.

  • the coppi just need normal hood brake lever that the bar is aching for, like this Pinarello;

    excellent bike though.

I finished my semi-beater, rode pretty well, for an average run-of-the-mill frame that is, I'm loving the 8x1 set-up as it's perfect for city (11-28 x 44)

Just need to peel the sticker off.

  • At first I didn't like that^ setup at all, but the more I look at it and compare it with current one, I'm starting to get more convinced..

I know about drops, but it's not my bike and these are more comfortable, which he wanted..
Although I think they're a bit too wide because of the added levers, they do look better irl.
I might trim them a few cm.

Thanks, but this is a 10hub, as shown here and previous owner used a similar set, as it's the only one available for Campa.

I'll look into those, Dutch - thanks.

  • If that's the Cinelli Priest bar, don't trim them, people actually pay £100 for them nowadays.

At first I didn't like that^ setup at all, but the more I look at it and compare it with current one, I'm starting to get more convinced..

The Cinelli bar was originally designed for road bicycle with drop bar, and to work with road hood levers, so it's actually perfectly suitable if he wanted a flat bar over a drop.

  • They are. I found a website which has about 30 NOS bars for about €70,- posted to NL..

I know the story behind the bars and I do like them, but I understand if people would rather see it a bit more sporty with drops.

  • I just realised something.

all the beater/project bicycle I had were blue.

all my long term/quality bicycle are red.

huh, subconscious is a strange thing after all.

    Haha. Same here..

  • I have drop bar V Brake levers on my Thorn, and bar-end shifters. Quite fancy putting some moustache bars on - do the levers work OK sideways like that, ergonomically? Would just need some downtube shifters and I'd be away.

  • @ Björn:

    Pedals: http://cgi.ebay.de/Pedale-Retro-Lyotard-NEU-Selten-/250819204655?pt=Sport_Radsport_Fahrradteile&hash=item3a65fd562f

But you may be able to find them for EUR 5,- at your local dealer, too.

  • depend on the bar really, some are possible, some aren't due to the curve.

  • I would throw them on and give it a go, but it would cost me bar tape and an hour.

Will check the parts bin and see what I've got.

  • Thanks, Dutch!
I gave them a thought, but I'm not sure whether they suit the bike - look a bit old.
Came across the MKS AR-2's, which, although not double sided, might look good.

I really like this Ed, looking at this built up it seems a shame that someone would want to throw it away.

You say that all your long term bikes were Red what about the Bob Jackson wasn't that white?

  • I'm using these on my new build which will be pretty much the same as yours but less porny

  • my textima ... sandblasted before getting the respray

  • Coppi almost done:

either remove or replace wheel decals

I'd leave them on, more original, they look good IMO

  • Not really for this crowd but thought I would share. Dug the mountain bike out of the garage for a 24h race this weekend - I bought it 1998 originally but its been sitting in the garage for the past 8 years untouched so spent this week taking it apart, regreasing and put it back together. Bar a suspect rear hub I'm please with how it has stood the test of time.
