who blasted that for you?
A place in Gosport, on the south coast. My mate uses them regularly and so he got it done cheap for me. Their masking isn't great either but they are well cheap and I would have been gutted if I'd paid out for a decent job with the brazing being what is is.

Probably 700x35, judging by the label on the tyre which says 700x35
Can't read it on my screen to be fair. They are 35s tho

Dawes came back from the powder coaters today. Late 90s Dawes are not the best for clear coat it seems. + the guy who blasted it missed a few bits but hey the frame was free and a blast and clear coat was £20. Also cleaned up a rear wheel.

http://chrisborneorestos.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/wheel-21.jpgSo jel, i spent weeks with nitromors and wirewool taking down the 6 layers of paint, lacquer and primer on my frame, it was a right fucker, and yours looks better than mine.

Do you not have a Cyrillic keyboard to hand? :-)
If you can read Cyrillic and vaguely speak Russian/Ukrainian/Bulgarian but don't have the keyboard to hand, and can't be arsed to use the Windows character map to pick it out one letter at a time, you can now type Roman letters which sound like what you want to say and Google will convert to Cyrillic
http://www.google.com/transliterate/
At the moment, it only supports Russian (among Cyrillic languages - it has a whole slew of Asian languages), so it automatically spell checks your work and if you type Kiiv it thinks you mean Киев - The Empire strikes back :-) -

^ That's awesome. In fact, all the Google language tools are pretty amazing IMHO.

Finally got it built up. Silver stem, neon yellow bar tape and some new cable outers and it'll be done. Seems gears are not as hard as I thought.

Nice one, lovely forks. Black hoods maybe?
-
• #44787
Good call. The forks are original Cougar ones, wee pantographed cat's face on the crown. I'd like to replace the group with 600 tricolour once I can get all the bits together, the grey anodised finish looks awesome on this frame.

Good to see you keep a can of lager in your toolbox.

The beginnings of my new project, my town/portuer bike. Its an 80's 531 falcon frame with campag forks ends, going to build it up with shimano 600 arabesque gears and brakes and Sugino super maxi cranks & bb. should be nice and relaxed for the summer.
only a quick mock up, but you get the ideaAnyone know what to do about the pitted chrome on the forks?
Also i'm not sure what colour to go for, suggestions?
-
• #44790
how bad is the pitting? Wire wool and a good polish will usually recover the light stuff
-
• #44791
Coke (the drink) and tinfoil for the forks.
-
• #44792
^ I've heard this.
I tried foil (it worked). What's the Coke for though? Refreshment?
-
• #44793
I say pitting, i mean it was very rusty and i wire wooled it off. now just left with really dull bad pitting.
how do i utilise the foil and coke?
-
• #44794
Dip foil in coke and rub the shiny side on the forks.
-
• #44795
^ That ^

• #44796
tbh I think they're beyond that, One side is ok, the other is just going to rust up again. I'll just have to get the the wire brush on them to texture them up for the respray.
-
• #44797
Give it a go, you'll be impressed.
-
• #44798
Just use the foil to smoke the coke then.

Its not going to re-chrome it is it though.
Just use the foil to smoke the coke then.
i'd never get anything done then!

Don't bother then.
