  • I think it's good as a beater/work bike. I like Rats with decent parts. elHuron's plan to enjoy it now and eventually restore it sounds like a good one. I'd personally rather have it like that than in beige.

  • Christy if ^ that's ^ it's fate don't sell it.

    Actually sell it to me.

  • Can't do. Soooray guys and now stop sending me messages, will never be for sale ;)
Im gonna ride that beast to death!

  • It would have taken what, 5 minutes to remove a couple of things and quickly mask off some stuff? Could've looked really decent, nice looking frame and all. My head hurts, ugh.

  • ...I won't sell that thing ever... I'm only 18...

What about when you move to EAST london wanting 'some' independence, and need to pay the rent?

    Patronisingas..;P

  • Raleigh Jeep was given a quick shake down and fix up over the weekend, not got the patience / bank balance to get the paint fully restored, so this is it finished as far as it goes (bar snipping and capping the brake cables).

    Jobs done:

    Serviced Headset
    Serviced front Hub
    Slight Truing of both wheels
    New brake cables and outers.
Damn good clean and some wire wool to get much of the rust off the chromey bits, chrome gone in places, e.g. DS crank arm.
New seatpost bolt (old one fell out while I rode it home)

600c wheels (24" appx) so ideal for a shorter person, GF is going to test ride it for a while then will decide to keep or sell on.

Not a great pic I know.

P.s. If anyone has a frame mounting pump (notch at either end) that'd suit & they want rid of, please let me know.

  • Love the forks on that Raleigh Jeep -- Dad has similar crowns on his Raleigh RRA Moderne (which he's owned since new for 53 years now and still rides at 75!), I really want some..

  • yeah, it's like they just used off cuts of tubing as a fork crown alternative!

this one is about 25 yrs old, so a long used Raleigh style.Any pics of your dad's one?

  • Rattlecanned my beater black today. Quick and dirty.

Paintjob this ghetto makes the bike look stolen to me. Not that bad but cranks are not that hard to take off.

  • ^
I'd leave the cranks on if I really didn't give a shit about the bike! Cranks are cheap anyways. Dope.

Not the best photo ever, but:

It had an (semi-)interesting backstory as well, so I've sent you a PM

  • ^^I like it. Paintjobs always get fucked up, so who cares.

The real problem for me is running it without brakes.........

    Different strokes..

Id still love it. It'd be a bit like an old cinelli supercorsa.

  • I resisted putting that in anti earlier in the week

  • it makes me sad :(

  • saddle is at a silly angle too.

  • so close but so far

  • Yup.

Much effort setting up the photo.
Feck all effort setting up the bike.

  • tires need to be glued (front will also be a tufo like the one in the back), height of the stem has to be checked.

  • what headset?

  • this is as much as i can do at work, I looked for some different bars but nothing good enough to bother changing, this works fine and the brakes are really good, way better than with the old suicide drop bar levers, in time it should get the usual new tire, grips, saddle, pedals and hopefully some nice swept back bars

this is for my cousin(only 14 years old) he doesn't want drops either so more chopped down flat bars! it dose make the brakes way better though and lets be honest, old school drops with suicide levers are not that comfy or safe, he wants to copy me and convert it to fixed gear to, good lad!

  • Dawes came back from the powder coaters today. Late 90s Dawes are not the best for clear coat it seems. + the guy who blasted it missed a few bits but hey the frame was free and a blast and clear coat was £20. Also cleaned up a rear wheel.
