bet it was stolen for some chav to get home but they didn't like the seat so high so they chucked it
bit of love that would be a lovely touring style bike
I did concider whether it might have been stolen but it's clearly been abused for some time. Tyres, rear brake cable and bar tape are all worn through, front brake was slack as hell and the brooks saddle was so loose the pin had popped out the front. Don't think anyonewould have bothered to steal it. Also the chain was stuck in between the bottom bracket and the inner chain ring. I'm guessing that was when the previous owner said fuck it and dumped it.
Gonna get it coated, pollish every bit to within an inch of its life, replace all the cables etc. Don't know that i'll be doing any long distance touring on it but It'll be nice to have something for rides where the terrain is just a bit rough for the road bike.

Think the frame is 531ST but it doesn't have a sticker.
I think it's safe to assume that any Galaxy with normal sized tubes is 531, they made them from that for about the first 3 millennia of production before switching to oversized tubes.

Done bit of research and apparently they used 531ST in the late 90s and that's why it has a 27.0 seat post instead of 27.2 with regular 531? Don't know if that's right tho, I'm no expert. Been looking for 531ST decals and they seem pretty hard to come by. Had no problem finding 708 for my Carrera Corsa and I though that was a fairly uncommon tube set.

stolen and not looked after
any one with that bike put effort and money into it, they wouldn't just leave it

Maybe
My Major Nichols came from a mate of mine who didn't know what he'd been given. All campag with mafac brakes. Had been well abused by the time I got hold of it. Left out in the rain every day. Gears and brakes had never been touched. Chain and cessette were as dry as a bone and rusty as fuck. I gave him £50 for it nd he thought he was ripping me off.

ergo: "If you're riding ss through London without a back brake you're either an idiot or an idiot."
I couldn't agree more

Yeah, will do. Stripped it last night and Stu's takin it to the powder coaters next week. Don't know how long it might take tho. I'm fresh out of girlfriend points after the amount of time i spent at Stu's shop building the Strong Island bike. Next up I gotta sort Amy's bike for the ride on Sunday. You goin?

the decals are purely vanity. my surname is wilson. i was just pissing about when i found wilsons cycles on the interwebs and they were kind enough to send me a set. the frame, so i'm told, was built for the leicester track. i think julies just threw some stickers on it.

i did consider just taking the stickers off and leaving it as it was - the rat look - but decided to go all out on it in the end.

Brilliant. That would never work with my surname!

Bolt on sprocket? I tried leftie but the lockring didn't like it. I also see no brakes and no clips? I also tried this but then gave myself a front brake for those moments up against the wall.
Looks like a nice rig
Thanks.
Sharing a front brake with another bike atm as was too poor to buy another! haha. Now got one on the way, wahey.
Nope, lockring didn't like it either. Can't keep it tight enough. Serious fail. It does ride lovely though (well as lovely as 40gi will allow).

New wheels and a few minor changes... tempted to put a 3T pro stem on instead of the team to get rid of the red...

Needs
If you must use SPD-SL, although Keo2max Carbon would match the colour scheme even better -

That really is very nice, mind if i ask where you had the restoration done and how many pennies it set you back?

Not all that new, PD-7900 introduced last year.
-
• #44049
Ah, I haven't bothered keeping up with all the new products since I stopped racing. The only problem I had with SPD-SL's was the width. I always caught the road/track with the pedal rather than the shoe like I did with SPD-R's. Perhaps I should have trained harder so that I wouldn't have to try pedaling so soon out of a corner
