    Sir Chris?

Highly paid IT consultants that specialise in IBM AS400 and Sytem/38. They are the lumpiest, worst dressed people ever.

  • Sir Chris?

No, slow pedalling tester. 85rpm average will get me a 59:13, which is what I did when I rode the same course at the end of last year.

really? The whole "my gear is bigger than yours" thing is a bit weak to be honest.

  • ^rides a small gear

  • ^rides a small gear

    :)
an average gear of 71 inches

  • It's for a fucking TT!

  • yes, i did read that. i don't really think it's really necessary to "show off" that he's riding with a larger gear than someone else.

  • You should tell people to stop talking about their bikes too.

  • your'e obviously not understanding what im trying to get at here.

  • I really don't get what you're trying to do...

All you need to do with that bike is get a Brooks saddle, some new tyres, polish rims, clean, re-grease/lube were needed - job done.

No really...I think it is not possible to understand it from the photos. The rims are a piece of rust, same thing for the cranks and chain. The brakes don't work (outer cables are dried and cracked, levers are broken). The rest (gears and derailleur) had to be taken off...so no, it was not usable with a 'lube' !! And I am not spending a lot of money on it....I planned to buy the cheapest things ever (cheapest things I found on internet).

But what paint job would you suggest then? I still have to buy the paint so...suggest something nice? Again maybe from the photo it is not easy to understand, but the frame also was very rusty and not in good conditions.

  • ^ just try to keep it looking like on the before picture and its nice. Plenty of cheap silver parts available in the interwebs.

  • +1

If the rims are rusty then they are steel. Replacing these would be a good idea.

Take fine wire wool to the rust patches on the frame. Clean, then touch up with clear nail varnish. Or sparkly nail varnish if you must.

Was I showing off about my bigger gear, or taking the piss out of myself for pedalling so slowly? It's TT talk, the only thing that counts is elapsed time. There are people who are slower than me who ride 120", and people faster than me who ride 90", and doubtless vice versa; we testers who are on the cog usually ask what each other has on, but the timekeeper always has the last word.

I was just amused that one person's idea of a big gear was actually so small that I can't fit it on my race bike because the tyre would hit the seat tube. If he gets it round fast enough, he can still ride faster than me, the medium gear record is 53:23 after all.

Not that I'm in any position to comment, but I'm very impressed by people who can get on top of a big gear. I find riding to the track on 85" a challenge.

  • My ex used to ride one of these. Didn't have a bike attached though.

  • Let's do it, with a grand total of 5 hours track experience under my belt I could take on anyone.
For this to actually happen can somebody please sell me some campag record pista cranks!

Errr... not sure mine will see a track for a while.
Its for the very dull training in the flatter parts of the midlands of Nottinghamshire.
It looks mean as right now.
