is there going to be a huge difference...between
48-36 up front with a 12-25 cassette
and
44-32-22 up front with an 11-25 cassetteJesus Fucking Christ, get yourself to a remedial maths class right now.
48/12=4
44/11=4
Did you not have multiplication tables beaten into you from a young age? -

I have been thinking about whether I want to keep my Roval's or replace with something else - I don't really have any frame of reference though. I know rs80's are very good, and Krysium's are obviously good wheels too, but obviously I've not ridden either so can't compare.
I definitely need another pair of cheapo hoops for training either way.

Just about finished this, my 1st full build. Although I might end up fitting a 2 pin seatpost and a set of flipped north road bars? It'll get a proper paint job at some stage, or a powdercoat for durability as it's a general run around bike (this is a rattle can job done in the garage). Thanks to The Bonk for the NOS rims, Skully for butchering the saddle & Arup for building up the the wheels with the DT Revolution spokes.
I like this. I'd keep the old seatpost though; if you don't I'm after one just like that...
Are the components all vintage 60s?

Ah, welcome to the next stage- agonising over wheels.
I've got Easton EA90 SLX for "proper" riding, DA 7800 on Open Pro for training/turbo.
However I doubt my life* will be complete without some 50mm carbon tubs.

Blue/Grey Dave Marsh
So you're the one that beat me by a fiver.
Fuck you, sir, fuck you.

There's always something :)
I promised myself that the 2k I spent last month would be my last bike spending for a couple of months, but then my helmet broke, and of course I couldn't buy a cheap replacement, or even source a bargain - straight to Condor I went to drop £130... and I have just spent the last half hour looking at shoes and pedals :/
Neil, even your training wheels sound expensive - I was thinking I'd just get some Aksiums or super cheapo pro-lites. I don't think i'll ever go in for tubs though.. but then, I honestly never thought I'd end up spooging money on carbon road bikes.

If you deserve to have the piss taken, there will be somebody on line to take the piss. You're only being tetchy because you've realised how dumb the question was, a realisation which at least proves that you're not as dumb as the question made you look ;-)

Could you expand on "meh"? What are your initial impressions of yours, ease of build and so on?

Meh definition
Indifference; to be used when one simply does not care. -

Some lovely bikes you guys are building (have built)
I cannot wait to have a road fixed again, but all the students keep whopping up the old road bikes around here
I'm having trouble finding a bike to base it on. -

Just to be pedantic, apart from the Sram PG890 chain, DT Rev spokes, Salmon brake pads, inner brake cable, rear hub cones, toe straps, xlight inner tubes and Pasela tyres its all '50-'60s stuff. Cheap as chips too!

I need a little geared help please, is there going to be a huge difference (top speed wise, I know it will give me a better low range) between running the following:
48-36 up front with a 12-25 cassette
and
44-32-22 up front with an 11-25 cassetteThanks very much.
I need the extra range of a triple, but don't want to loose spin out a full whack. Will the extra 1t on the cassette go much way to making up for the loss of 4t up front?
Have you considered a 'trekking triple' 48-36-26' it would give what you already have but with a 26t granny ring.
A) who needs a 22t unless they're doing some hardcore off-roading.
B) the 36t chainring is far more usable than a 32t (IMHO).I actually use 48:11 quite a lot. So would go for the 11-25 as well.

I know you probably already considered this. But shoes are not the place to start saving money. So you'll have to continue the big spending. I've basically got my heart set on some S-works. Means I'll have 4 pairs of cycling shoes though, to add to my 4 pairs of running shoes, and 3 pairs of rugby shoes. But I need to keep my feet happy, if I'm going to do any sport.
reminds me of this
