Brakeless does make you slower unless you are riding dangerously.
Since you can't slow/stop as effectively as a bike with brakes it must be one or the other.never mind that shit, it makes you so much cooler than everyone else, you must know this?

nope, local here in belgium (i'm in antwerp, bike was in ghent)... i paid 250 euro (=235 pound) for the frameset, campa 165mm pista cranks, 50t campa pista chainring, wheels with campa hubs (tubs though, so relacing them on open pros), dura ace seatpost.
not suuuper cheap but cheap enough.sod that mate, that´s really cheap since it won´t take much to build it up now, with the exception of the wheel that needing to be build.

i disaggree.
first of all, i am not throwing it away; i am storing it for when i resell the bike at a premium to someone anal enough about everything being 'right' and 'as it is supposed to be' to spend way too much money on it.
and... if i wanted to ride slowly i wouldn't buy a bike that's made to go fast. i would buy a full suspension city bike with a nice comfy saddle the size of a couch. using a brake is not only about going fast, it's also about being able to react to motorists, tram drivers, peds and other cyclists who aren't paying attention to the rest of the road users. sure, you can try to anticipate every situation, but shit is going to happen and when it does, i'd rather have a brake on my bike.
and lastly, couble plate forks are not THAT rare. there are still plenty of them around and they can still be made if you really want one.
that's just my thought anyway.
I got bikes with brakes and bikes without
and I change my riding style accordingly
riding brakeless actually broke a very bad habit of mine
of racing just about every fucka
who so much as looked a me
you do what you like sunshine
just a shame to hide a nice pair of forks
under the bed

too many miles, years and crashes. this saddle can tell a lot of stories.

that's you
not me
so don't project
and we'll get along finethe fork is just a fork, a piece of steel, it does not have feelings, it cannot be hurt.
i really don't care about it; the only reason i'm not drilling it is for resale value...
...and the fact that with that fork on the bike i've got crazy toe overlap whereas with the other one I don't. -

You are avin a laugh innit
your post your little 'dilemma'
"next time think about the front brake situation BEFORE buying a frame"
you get an answer you don't like
and then you get all huffy about it
stroll on

why not sell the frame and forks to someone who won't destroy it and buy something more appropriate
-
• #4141
guys, the problem is fixed (no pun intended), i swapped the forks, no drilling involved...
smiling buddha, i wasn't looking for beef, okay... i have my reasons for not going brakeless, so that was never an option. I just don't like it when people get all militant "don't drill forks!", "go brakeless", "don't fix a road frame", "don't ride a track frame on the road"...
love and peace and nice bikes.

?
what, like a lo-pro with risers? -
• #4143
yeah why not

I know man, that's why I'm riding the S-Works brakeless next year.
-
• #4145
Honestly, what problem do you have with me swapping forks so I DON'T have to drill the original fork? Where is the destruction? What is inappropriate about that? Any more than a lo-pro with risers and a front brake?
Did I piss on your rug by accident?
I mean, what's the problem? -
• #4146

Yes it can.
Why?
I said so.
Nyer! -
• #4147
It's solved man, you've got spare forks. Job done. Don't sweat it.

I mean, what's the problem?im not the one with the problem , all i was stating is you were not happy with not having a brake and it had a lot of toe overlap, so why not buy a bike your happy with in the first place?

I don't just build bikes I restore them. When I see a classic bike broken up into parts or converted into something it ain't. I think well there goes a little piece of history. Might not matter to you? but I think a double plate fork makes this bike special enough to keep it together. Like I say all you really got to do is moderate your riding style and if you want a really fast bike try riding gears. something like 53 -14 ..;)

never mind that shit, it makes you so much cooler than everyone else, you must know this?
makes you a better rider - better anticipation - more fluid - useful skills that transfer to you other bikes -
How come no one see drum brake front hubs as an alternative?
