Hi, this was on the other thread so here is the story. This is the frame that I tried to trade here. I bought a 46cm medium matt black gangsta from craigslist LA. I turned out to be horribly rattle canned (over BB and headset) 40cm small. I was really pissed off and tried to contact the seller, but he never replied back. I had used the dispute earlier, when he didn't send the frame after I paid it. I was stupid and closed the dispute and you can't open it again. So here is the starting point:
Good thing is that gangstas geometry has about the same effective length in 40 and 46. So I decided to get it sandblasted and powder coated. I also got original decals from a friend.
So here is the build, finished today. Great to ride, still not sure about the looks - long seatpost makes it mtb-like. If I'm gonna keep it I'll use it for polo and "fun"-bike and the post can be lowered - this setup is for commute.

a lot of money for parts and then a blb saddle?
-
• #41181
heh, I read the other thread and laughed. Yeah took some parts from my old ride and that was the only saddle that I had - wanted to take the bike out for a spin.

I think it look pretty good, the 40cm gangsta is actually 1cm longer than the 46cm one.

...that was the only saddle that I had - wanted to take the bike out to take some pics to brag over interwebz.
fixed

Stealth Gangsta
Damn cool bike that, don't think the frame size matters, looks like you could drop the seat out of the way to pop some mad whips, etc.
I thought the saddle was a WTB at first glance... i'd prefer a black sdg bel air / sattelite or the like.

Ed, Did you have to cold respace the rear stays to take the modern hub or is the 'nago 130mm?

I basically have all parts for a new build, I just need to decide on a frame. New, OTP, will only be used on the road, not more than £350, size about 53 c-t. If the kilo tt were available in europe I probably would have bought it. I want something not too pricey that I can ride careless. I'm torn between three options,
brothercycles frame
gromada custom
some examples
or the new goldsprint frame.
I like the classic look of the lugged brothercycles frame. plus it has clearances for fenders (though I doubt I'm gonna install any). 4130 chromoly tubing. price is £350 (including shipping, im not in the uk)
the gromada would be about the same price, dedacciai tubing. Im not too fond of the frames on his website, but the second picture is of a custom frame from somebody on a danish forum, and that one is really nice.
goldbike would be the cheapest, about £300 shipped from berlin. slacker head tube angle than the other ones though. Welded frame, made from Columbus Thron. If it werent for the straight fork I probably would have bought one already. although it requires an ahead set, and I have only parts for a threaded fork here.

Goldsprint in raw!

gromada look like they have some interesting shiz going on,
do you know of a uk supplier?
-
• #41193
not 100% convinced, but intrigued

no, but you can contact him directly via mail, its a one man operation. his english is not too great, but he is really helpful. Id probably be getting a frame with a normal brake bridge anyways, just in case. people seem to be happy with his frames, although I found a flickr post where one of them apparently cracked in the seat stays after only three months.
If I were in the UK id get a brothercycles, but I tend to the goldsprint as well. head tube angle is 72 degree vs 74 on the bc. different fork might be available if I preorder, not sure if I can grow to like a straight fork.

Pretty much all PX builds look the same.
Isn't that the case with all BT Stealths?
And Corima Cougars? -

Ed, Did you have to cold respace the rear stays to take the modern hub or is the 'nago 130mm?
Orginially it's 126mm, so I just pull the seatstay a bit to push in the 130mm hubs, no need to cold set and it's only 2mm each side.

Ed, the bike setup looks like you could easily ride +2 or +3cm more on the seattube
do i remember correctly that you don't do that because then the toptube would be too long for you? -
• #41198
those seat stay bridges above just look stupid

Ja, same with my Chessini,
I will post some photos on the weekend of my completed cheapo & the next two projects. -

do i remember correctly that you don't do that because then the toptube would be too long for you?Quite right, i can fit a 57cm frame perfectly but need a 54cm top tube, so the Colnago was a compromise (54cm square) and that has been Bike Whispered to fit me nicely.
Can't afford a custom frame yet, which I will do in the near future, the colnago is perfectly comfortable in that set-up for now, frame will be a randonneur/audax type hopefully in the future.
I know your game mate, don't get funny with me. I was HOLDING A +5 THOMSON IN MY DAMN HAND about a week ago, weighing up the pros and cons.
It's a good looking bike, despite your assertions, I think they're brilliant. I hope you enjoy it!
I'm only joshing, I don't think I'll have the spare cash for one any time soon. Just gettin' jealous.
