Is anyone running a SA hub brake? I've got one, and I'm thinking of building it up into a front wheel, but I've heard they aren't as responsive as other brake types, and even that they can fail under emergency braking... Having never ridden one, I'm hoping for advice on whether they're any good.

They're not as 'direct' as other brake, but it's very reliable in all weather condition and easy to look after, I never adjusted mine for 6 months, it's lovely being able to slow down in wet weather without the brake being affected by it.
I rode with one for a while, with both front and rear brake, they work perfectly fine, but if you rode with a front only singlespeed, you'll find that it may take a while to slow down (the modulation can be adjusted, but if you set it very responsive - it won't spin that smoothly).

I'd be riding it fixed, but I'd be worried that if they're not as direct, they perhaps wouldn't be suitable for emergency braking?
When you say that if adjusted they won't spin as smoothly, do you mean that the brake will jerk on and off?? -

picked this up tonight. its my local bike shop in belfasts own brand frame from the 80's.

meaning it like having the brakepad lightly touched on the rims - you can feel the resistance.
fixed + drum brake will be fine, the combination of a fixed wheel drivetrain and drum brake will be more than enough to stop you.

For future current project reference Columbus has reintroduced the Max tube set
Sounds interesting, what's the project?

Ta for the nice comments.
regal, you ridden that zoncolan yet?
Only a quick exploratory ride on the other bike, and it seemed aggressive but not uncomfortable. Time will tell - if it's not for me it'll get swapped for a ti-railed black Regal or a Regal-e.

Ta for the nice comments.
You really nice job, building up that beautiful frame there.

it's a nice bike, you found the reach to be too long with a normal stem?
It came with a 120mm stem and that was way too long for me... so I found a 50mm at a bargin price... but maybe a lil too short... jus gona ride it for a bit and then see.. maybe I'll trade it for a 70mm and try that..... the feather looks amazin.... so simple and nice...... how does it ride???

Thanks man. Apart from the bit where I sliced the top of the BB shell when the lockring tool slipped.

Thanks, simple is what I was after, I'm not one for a loud shouty bike (as much as I can appreciate those). I'll tell you how it rides when I get a chance, it's not turned a wheel in anger yet.

Just needs Bar tape for comfort, and 2 small washers for aesthetics (!) first impressions not as scary handling as I'd expected... 83.5 inch (54-17) gear feels nice.
OK, the Fort is finished and it's amazing. Unfortunately however my camera is broken so I can only furnish you with the following photos. It really is awesome and a phone pic isn't going to do it justice so yo'll have to hang on for a bit.
