If you take all the savings I made by shopping in the sales, getting last year's model etc. and then subtract that from what I actually paid, I reckon I got the whole bike practically for free. I'm pretty sure that's how economics works :-)
Remarkably similar to the justification I'm using...
And my other christmas project...
and this made me smile.

What bars are they on the rainbow bike?
I'm aware they're flipped and cut drops but any idea as to what?

I have a big adjustable as well which would take in that range, it's not thin like a headset spanner though.

My 585 Ultra was <£1200 for f&f, so I saved a grand I could put towards building it up. I then saved about £200 on the chainset by buying Record 10v after the 11v came out, and so on. If you take all the savings I made by shopping in the sales, getting last year's model etc. and then subtract that from what I actually paid, I reckon I got the whole bike practically for free. Unfortunately my budget is finite this year - maths jiggery pokery and self-delusion isn't going to cut the mustard :)
I don't really have time for a project unfortunately.
I have already convinced myself to expand my budget to £1700 from £1000 (because "it's better value for money", "I won't end up replacing everything after 6 months" and "I'll end up with a bike i like, not a planet x" etc etc /self-delusion!)..
I would happily spend £1200 on a frame, but that would leave me with £500 for the rest of the bike.. don't think a Look with mirage and planet x wheelset would really be right :)

Finally totally finished this now, got the new wheels and decals on. Cross bike made by me on the Dave Yates course.
Good effort. Like, despite lack of rainbow fade paint. ;-)

I have a 32/36 headset wrench if that's any use to you.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Sumo that build looks brill. Is that basically your student loan piled up in bike bits? :P
-
• #39593
It's what was spare of my student loan, the rest went on money I owed people/rent.

Cool. Looks great by the way.

Cheers man. Will look better when built up. The clearances are crazy, the chainstays are really short. One of the dropouts is a little bent by about half a mm at the end, but once the wheel's in it's fine.

Good work. Hopefully starting a new project pretty soon...

thats the plan. Might put some risers on it in the future.

might suit some swept back bars porteur/moustache style? (not too much sweep though)
