• i think you mean:
best snow ever!

• The fact is nearly no one up here would be travelling to work on the bikes/cars, the people in the UK are using, in the current conditions.

Its easy for people in colder climes to be smug, as they get winters that are both frequent and long enough, to warrant investing in the right equipment.

I was in the UK last year for the snow. When the man fram Avis give me a sporty hatchback with summer tyres, to drive my family 250miles. I near shat myself.

(those zip ties are still shite though. Ask anyone who offroads. Forwards grip helps you go fast, which is nice. But its sideways grip, that stops you breaking your bones)

• ski stabilisers!!!!!!

• ski stabilisers!!!!!!

Could have done with these a few years back. One time I slide several meters on my arse, in the opposite direction to my bike. Only to realise that it was fecking dark, I could'nt get up for slipping, and my bike had all my lights/reflectors.

• Henry, you just gave me idea.

*popping round to work to pick up some old stabiliser.

stabilisers on the brooklyn?

• ^^Furry muff.

I read your post as saying that a €10.5k road bike represented better value than a car.

I do agree that if a bike is your only transport then you're 'allowed' to spend a bit more on a bike. I remember when I was going to buy my first london bike (a giant hybrib) and told my parents that I was looking to spend ~£300 and they were shocked.

I then broke down my transport costs in London at the time: £1 bus + x2 tubes £2.20 = £5.40 x 5 = £27 p/w Call it £30 p/w as I'd use some transport at the weekend. £300 / £30 = 10 months

I did'nt say it was better value. It clearly is'nt.

But I already have an estate, and the subject of a second small car comes up alot. I just think that owning a 10,000EUR bike, would be very special. Whereas owning a hatchback would'nt excite me much.

If I did'nt already own a car, I doubt I'd think the same. I may also think differently if I was'nt sensing the approach of middle agedness.

(ED: Its clearly the wheels, which are killing that build finanically)

The drops look fine. Put some orange tape on them to match the decals.

Is that frame designed for drops BTW? The hoods look like they're right over the front hub.

i think you should put some risers on this

• is that a moccassin?

• Boating shoe?

• i am voting sebago

• Looks great Ed!

• is there a pretty big clearance in the front fork?

• yeah, I think it's the head tube angle that's caused it. You might want some forks with less rake.

• Big clearance on the door as well.

It's based on an 60's English path racer, so yeah I suppose it is made for drop, the fork however is a bit of an oddity, need to ride it properly once I get a front cyclocross tyres.

• That Brooklyn.....

genuine question; why?

• Lightweight Standard C - $5,795.00 (€4,417.27)
Continental Grand Prix 4000 - £71.89 (€85.27)

Does not compute. If you're going to get nice wheels, get some nice tyres to go on them. GP4000s are tractor tyres.
