  • i hate it

  • I don't know, I think that the thick strips look good there. Sort of like a reference to the classic styling when ppl use World Champ strips, but different. I esp like it just on one side.

i dont do classic! it will be on a modern alloy frame..... stripes will be nowhere near the typography.

  • So my commute has been halved and is pretty much walkable now (3 miles). Other than when I'm racing/training/TNRCing directly after work and in the opposite direction from home, it would be ridiculous to commute in anything other than my work clothes and normal shoes.

So my idea is to add this:

Fairymuff... Like I said I was thinking more of a reference, a sort of nod not the full monty as on the BLB one. Basically as you've got it on that plastic pipe. One side and fat.

  • ^^ha!

  • (so) what projects is everyone working on? anything fun?

I've already posted about the 1954 Hetchins that I'm working on but I have a couple of recent projects that were fun. One was for one of the receptionists in the local clinic. She told me she had around $600 to spend and was thinking of buying a Louis Garneau (originally Canadian, I think, but it's basically junk to start with and made in China). I told her she could get a really nice bike for less than half of that if she bought something 2nd hand and did it up. She was interested but didn't know anything about bikes so I offered to help.

I looked on Yahoo Auction Japan and found a 1985 Katakura Silk that she liked and which we bought for $120, stripped down and rebuilt together, spending abother about $180 on. All the chrome parts were rusty but oxalic acid cleared that up. New balls in the headset and BB but the wheels were fine. The paint was good after a good going over with fine compound and wax and all the alluminium came up very nicely. Below are some before and after photos.

I don't make any money for doing this. It's just fun to do and the only condition I impose is that whoever I help pays for all the parts and gets their hands dirty.

About bloody time! Looking very nice too :)

If you are serious (!?) I have one of these to shift in as new condition.

  • @ M.O.H. Sterling effort mate, nice to see other kind of restoration than the typical European one.

Thank you, edscoble. Not much effort though as it's enjoyable. If only I put as much energy into my business as I put into bicycles...

This was a very straight forward restoration of what was originally a pretty well made cycle. IIRC, the Gloria was 3rd from the top of the Silk road racer range. Although all the chrome was rusty the frame itself was entirely rust-free. The only part we had to replace was the BB axle which was too pitted to use. It was one of the older Tange type with nuts on the ends rather than bolts and I just happened to have one that came on my 1979 Dawes Atlantis.

The receptionist was thrilled, and that was nice to see. As well as her amazement at how much easier a light machine is to get up hills on.

  • i don't really know where i can post this without creating a new thread, but my bike was here posted, so maybe a few of you can remember. it's the teaser for the upcoming "vamos a la playa" DVD- and photobook package is now online: Vamos a la Playa Teaser on Vimeo

  • it is indeed by huret.

Theres the origina lights and dynamo in a bag as well.

I'll prob stick both up for trade at some point.

  • Eingang, that looks excellent.

  • Sparky,
That looks like fun, what are you planning?

  • I'm sworn to secrecy, but you may have noticed that I've been putting pics of components up as I get them. Should be something cool to show off before Christmas.
