  • +1 on the smp saddle.
since you are going for gold I would take it over the top. like dirty harry, seat post clamp, bars.

  • Here she is. Click the pics for bigger versions.

    Some details:

    • Tubing is oversize 853 Pro Team with the usual combo of 725 rear end and 631 forks.
    • Headtube arrangement is a bilaminate construction where the TT and DT are fillet brazed to an oversize headtube "sleeve" which is then cut away to form the "lugs" into which the actual headtube is brazed (some pics of the process on Ricky's Flickr).
    • Paint is a mk1 Audi TT colour called Nimbus Grey. It looks non-metallic but it's a very fine pearl.

More pics and details on Ricky's blog. I'll be building it up over the next few weeks (still need to source a couple of bits - primarily the crankset).

    Basically, it's beautiful and I'm stoked. :D

  • What does something like that from Feather set you back?

  • That is stunning.

  • Beautiful, really understated and nice.

  • What does something like that from Feather set you back?

Drop Ricky a line, he'll be happy to quote you. It was about what you'd expect for an 853 track frame so given the amount of custom work IMO it was very good value.

  • no reply to my last request :( obviously not enough trike love here.

I'll have another pop, does anyone know of a single or dual pivot brake that will clear a schwalbe big apple, or even better, a mud guard too. the mud guard is about 6cm wide.

    will these work?

    they're these by the way

I'm sure I answered it before.
As for that particular brake - I've got the same on my Grubb which has clearance for the 27s. It takes 37mm Randonneur and a mudguard. Not sure how many millimeters, but can be something between 61-65mm.
It should take 6cm wide mudguard, but it really depends how long is the mudguard's mount, because obviously brake has the horseshoe shape.

  • Regal, that's a beauty!

  • Thanks for the compliments. It's exactly how I wanted it. Hopefully I can do it justice with the build.

  • cheers for the brake advice, they're not being mounted on forks so as long as everything is cleared at some place it will work. Will check out some BMX brakes too. I'd discounted them as I thought they were all the U-brake sort.

ed don't go breaking the wheel down too early, I've got my eyes on something else at the mo, will let you if I change my mind.

  • Regal what crankset you thinking? totally stunning frame, interesting reading about the bilaminate headtube process. really cool. Is the stem on the blog yours as well?

  • Had this in this in the for sale section like this, and did not gt one person asking about it and it was cheap

So I decided to powdercoat it and build it like this

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/kingcutter/BIKES/grey001.jpg

Was going to use a blackhead set but the tange one is realy nice also put a new 105 crank on.

When did you have that for sale KC? Just what I was after a few weeks ago.

  • Regal, that's a beauty! I'm loving Ricky's work, just don't screw up the build! Look forward to seeing it completed.

Stem will be a regular Nitto Pearl. I'm 90% decided on a Dura-Ace crankset to match the headset and hubs, but I do like a Sugino 75...

  • that carlton is beautiful.

  • Who did the work for you..?

http://www.edisoncycles.co.uk/ Great shop in Chesterfield. They pretty much matched the original perfectly:

  • just picked this up off the bay, it's going to be refurbished for my best mates xmas and birthday present, i'm trying to do it cheap, but i feel i may get carried away as it looks like it's in such good condition.
    to come:
    drop bars and levers
    decent tyres
    bar tape
    saddle
    pedals
(little stuff like cables and pads and such)

  • It's either the photo but the angle of the fork look pretty steep, almost touching the downtube.

  • I've just got to work out what sort of jig to build to braze up the rack, I don't think the cable ties will work in the long run. After that some brazing still needs some tidying, some cable stops and pump thingies need to go on, and then I can start the joyous task of polishing the stainless bits. Then I can paint it. I'm beginning to think my hope to have it by Christmas is rather optimistic.

Ed, in answer to your earlier question, it has been built around a 26mm tyre and mudguards to suit. Without the mudguards, or with some cut around the stays it wll take a 32mm.

(please no one mention that the internal routing for the rear brake comes out on the wrong side)

  • don't worry ed, from the looks of this picture it is just the photo angle:

amazing work! i saw you cycling the walrus flyer a couple of months ago and cracked a smile. with regards to a jig, i know it's probably much more complex, but could you use the adjustable arms that you use in 2ndary school chemistry experiments? they have to hold glass tubes in very precise angles for days on end. just a thought?

run the brakes on the underside of the stays. then it'll look logical.

although for a tourer woudn't you want to run these??

  • Sterling effort, like the inventive (or has it been done before? I recall seeing something similar that Rene Herse did) use of the integrating rack, at first I though you simply meant brazing the rack onto the frame like a Jack Taylor, little did I realise it's part of the frame now that I've seen how it look.

From your description, is it going to be a mixture of a randonneur and tourer rather than a proper tourer?

How much was it? My parents live just outside chesterfield, and I will be looking for a decent frame renovator soon.
