Does it extend to clamp itself in, or do you have to screw it into the ceiling?
Was going to do this this weekend.

On the upside, there's still enough space for another bike. Altho I think I need to get a step ladder.
You have really high ceilings!

just finished my current build
stripped and polished 1980's Viscount road frame
im liking it alotI like tht a lot too. Viscount apparently had some trouble with their forks at some point, they would fail and people may have died so the forks were nicknamed "death forks". Does your bike have them?

Today I have been mostly putting a shorter BB in the Rollamonsta. Better chainline for me, free (+p&p) 68x107BSC Shimano BB-UN54, used indoors only, for somebody. PM me if you want it.

Does it extend to clamp itself in, or do you have to screw it ...
It extends and locks. Then there is a nut and bolt in the bottom to raise it tight. There are screw holes in the top pad and I did screw it in to the celling. But that was mainly to make it more secure and stop any lateral movement. I didn't use rawpugs and only two of the three screws are properly secured. But as it's the extension that really holds it, it'll be fine.
As for whether you should screw it?... I would, but it's prolly not the end of the world.
Also there are two brackets to hold it to the wall. If I did it again I'd use them. Unfortuneatly the pole is just too far to do it now.
Oh and you'll prolly need another person, esp for getting it level/straight.

I was about to comment how small the frame is until I realise I didn't see the other top tube!

Fuck sake.
now Retrovelo just released an Alfine 11 speed version of the ATB and appear to be better equipped;
I got the singlespeed version as I didn't want to get the old 8 speeds one and eventually upgrade to the 11 speeds, worse thing about it? the Afline is expected to be in the shop by Jan/Feb.
The singlespeed version doesn't come with dynamo which annoyed me sometime rotten as they didn't specify this when I order it.

I don't quite follow the "8 speeds is too few, I really want 11 so I'll just have 1" train of thought but then again I suppose I don't really have to. Imo one speed is enough for these kind of bikes, I sometimes borrow my dads bike to get groceries because it's big and has fat tyres and two racks. It's also got 8 speeds though which makes me want to ride it faster than I should. I'd probably swap out the fat tyres for some faster skinnier ones if I wanted a little more speed before I'd wory about gears. It's a cruiser, if you want to get somewhere fast you've got an other bike for that job right?

that's a hideous looking bike Ed, probably fine if you are in an early 80's kids movie where you and your friends who didn't go to summer camp hang around a faded coastal town swimming in pools and helping the local police solve murder mysteries but a heavy nodder bike with wheels weighing 3kilo's? are london streets that bad?

One is fine, but the weight and fat tyres of the bike make it a little harder to accelerate from traffic at time (even at 61GI) and the hill I do need to stand up (especially on Wimbledon Hill Road), also the range in the 8 speeds hubs is a bit random whether the iMotion and the Rohloff have a steady range;
http://www.hubstripping.com/review/gear%20steps%20group%20c.jpg
The new 11 speeds is a lots better, oil bath, lighter and cheaper than a Rohloff, and I use that bike everyday, from a quick singletrack to a cargo carrying monster, shitload of fun to ride and stupidly smooth on the road, make a nice difference to a skinny 700c despite not being as quick.
Oh and MrSmyth? don't spout till you taste it.

mmm?
Just look for the tiny black dot on the seatstay (right where the mudguard is).
I don't understand that chart - what's on the y-axis?
The range between each gears, or to put it simply, the gap.

What brake mount system is that? Ive got one of the dia-compe keirin ones on my Aende but its a pain in the ass and keeps moving about/scratching my headset
Promax Keirin. Very good rubberised clamp - doesn't move at all.
From Hubjub, but I think they have a different batch this month called Cobra (as always)Oh, no, that is EEI's own achievement =))
although, he must be mad at me for not providing one, not replying to PMs... ((((Sorry, usually check them via email and have over 80s unread PMs at the moment in my inbox.

Okay ... here goes:
Most of the bits were on a previous incarnation, a corroded Koga Miyata frame. Now bolted onto a new All-City Big Block.
Nice job.
Just make the next bike uber light so you can lift it up and down with a pole.
