right, I think it's finally finished, even though I said it was before. My about town/pub bike. I'm thinking about getting the frame and fork powder coated black though, but i don't know if it look good? (so if any dandy potato shoppers want to make it black so i can see what it'll look like please). what do you think?

would look more civilised in black, but i don't think that is the point of that bike.

@tricity: Wow very nice indeed. Are those rims pink or violet?
Nice ride. I reckon some pink tape is in order though.
what rims are those tricity?
Thanks! :D
The rims (and hubs) are Dia Compe, and they're pink.
I can't decide what to do about the bars... I was toying with the idea of some black anodised risers with pink grips, but I can't really afford anything new and I do like the cute bmx lever on the black bar tape. Hrm.
Can't wait to ride it.

Charlie the Bikemonger. (http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/userimages/procart27.htm)
Yes they were cripplingly expensive, but I wanted pink wheels goddamnit. And I don't like deep Vs.

The lugs are prugnat long point, which makes it a mid-late 80's frame probably. There are some very nice details on it.

Wow, is that where you live? (what a nosey bastard i am, sorry, none of my business i know, but I love that photo, i'm gonna use it as my wallpaper, when i get a computer. After i find somewhere to live, that is, when i get back to london from my folks, and sorted out the mess of my relationship, and found work.)
Its nearby at least (and the photo very recent)
I live on the west coast of Norway. Cold, dark, and the beers around £7 a pint

Sorry for throwing this slightly off topic, but for those building their bikes, ive created a thread that will help you plan the looks :)
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread13977.html#post421153
You can create the bike you currently ride too, as I have:
Anyway, anything related with these illustrations keep it in that thread. Thanks,
EddieBy the way, never managed to say - bogey, that ride is BLING, it actually looks way better than those photos show it.

Built.
Before Xmas, just like I said.
Need to get another cog and then the P-X wheel goes on the back.
Might lose the Shadow half-link chain too.
47x17 is actually quite nice.. might hang onto it a bit before trying 47x19. -

that'd look nice with a 75 on it hippy :)

I have a black one here.. :P
It's a commuter so I don't want it too bling.

nice one chris...
i'm hoping to build this up and ride this before xmas, then i'll think about getting the angle grinder out for all those unwanted bits.
I like it Rocksteady, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished article. Just a thought though, but those original add-ons, like the under-toptube pump fitments, should be made use of....if possible.
The cheap old-fashioned long-tube metal pumps, are light and really efficient. I have achieved over 100psi with them, even though proper force was required, and the metal heated up so much, I had to hold it with a cloth.
If going for a modern look, ok, hack 'em off, but if going for a classic aesthetic, them at least contemplate keeping them.
My tuppeny-ha'penny.

another work in progress.
ex londons self proclaimed fastest messenger of yore 'Nelly'. he rode it into the back of a car so it's slightly bent. needs a new top and down tube which will be replaced with more modern 631 or 725 as 531 is shit. going to have the full mercian paintjob with barbers pole etc, build will be dura-ace/nitto/brooks will be used on the track and for short rides to cafe's
it's being put in the cupboard under the stairs as it's not going to be done until after the summer at the earliest as there is a road bike ahead of it in the queue.

it is nice, i alternate 47 x 17 and 47 x 18. think i actually prefer the latter, nicer in rolling country anyway.

that's not what i've heard...
-

that's not what i've heard...
well there are still some tubes available but as far as i'm concerned stronger lighter tubes will be a better replacement and they can save the 531 for the bedwetters and fanboys who will appreciate it's retro qualities.
if anyone wants the old tubes to make their own 531 wank fantasy apparatus then send me a p.m. -
