Spend a while cleaning the drivetrain, most especially the rear cassette which took me a solid hour worth of brushing with a toothbrush, took out the chain too, clean them and put them back, quite a bit of dirt in them and the last thing I want is the drivetrain to wear down faster than it should.
changed saddle because the original is already disintegrating so it's best to take it off and try and restore it (it's those Colnago saddle), seatpost have chrome peeling really badly when I took it off, replaced with a Condor one (and soon, campag carbon), new bar tape, and I know I hasn't clean the brake levers hood yet.
soon, clipless pedal and matching gumwall tyres (Deda RS Corsa FTW).

Need a north road moustache bar Henry?
-
• #29783
yes!
and a 1" quill 80mm stem also....
and some shallow drop brakes with hex nut (ie. non recessed allen key) fittings.
and a weird seatclamp bolt.
-
• #29784
I actually have a 80mm quill stem too, will get them together and give it to you soon.
as for the brake, best thing you should do is to take it to Holdsworth and ask them to extend the hole on the back of your fork so you can insert recessed allen key brakes.
or fit a coaster brake, I fucking dare you.

yeah, but I cbf.... I have to go there soon anyways though- to find the weird Seatpost clamp (tm)
oh and I'll take both of the above as mentioned.
plus why did I quote this?
my mind is shot. -

I am sourcing components as we speak... Currently thinking 8 speed, mainly C-Record bits with some Record ergo levers... Have to wait and see what pops up... Oh, and I've got some Shamals in the pipeline... ;]

Joe and Ed, both your new Colnagos are completely unsuitable for you. I don't know what you were thinking. I suggest you give them to me and I will dispose of them for you.

Darling your mind is shot the moment you first got your geekhouse.
Joe, sourcing those component will likely to cost shitload of money and time, especially the desirable C-Record.
I'm currently thinking of selling the Holdsworth to fund the modern Centaur groupset, I'll let you know if I'm selling the Chorus groupset, including wheels.

Joe - I've a pair of 8 speed Ventos if your budget won't stretch to Shamals.

they suit the hipster equipment ethos though. using old out of date technology, slow, clunky, incongruous, retro looking, and acceptable to your peers.
they're out of date, slow clunky etc. if you're going to use it on a road bicycle.
However when it come to bicycle like the randonneur variety , it's extremely useful to be able to carry a front bag without getting obstructed by the brake levers when changing gear, as well as being able to trim your gear if they're not exactly where they should be.
Of course there's the option of bar end shifter instead of downtube/toptube, but they're down to preference more than performance.
I've been reading too much Bicycle Quarterly.

Nice Colnago Ed :-)

My, will you look at that, Graham actually says something nice about my bike, what are the odd of that?!
-
• #29794
He's buttering you up so when you get a sore arse in a week or two and decide to sell it, he'll be able to swoop in and snap it up.

Go for Sram mate, or the Alfine.
Actually why don't you talk to Brixton Cycles or BikeFix about it? They'd know more about those sort of thing.
-
• #29799
oh i've done my research:
http://hubstripping.wordpress.com/internal-gear-hub-review/alfines ain't so hot- shitty 1st and 2nd gear steps, compared to the Sram's more consistent Rohloff type performance...
Plus as a massive bonus- standard disc tab, not centrelock shite.
final edit:
the reason for the S3X is I kinda want to keep the beast fixed. -
• #29800
Urgh. I was looking at Alfines and now you've fucked it all up, Henry! Now I've got to read those shitty graphs and do more research. Fucker.
I'd go for what looks the awesomest
