yeah i want to keep it with the original vinyls, i think they are the main attraction to how it looked..
my dad was also saying to restore it with gears..probably a good idea seeing as you guys think the same..
lol...as for deep v's or a spoke card ill keep them away from this build

In all seriousness, are you sure you want to spend money on a basic bottom of the range steel frame?

DAWES MILK RACE
My cousin won a Milk Race sometime in the 80s and was fitted to have this hand built for him...A bit of a mess now after all these years but the frame is in perfect order...no dents just needs stripping and a good respray. Still got the original drops on it engraved by the builder..
I think it will make a nice fixed conversion project..budget of 5-600 quid..What are your guys suggestions?
he won a stage of the milk race or the whole thing? and are we talking about tha MILK RACE as in tour of britain.
sorry if i missed something.

+1 this is a good point, but if it's for sentimentality and due to the history of your cousin winning it then I guess it doesn't matter. They look pretty cool when they were new

I'm seriously doubting that, sure it's hand built by Pisti' relative all right, but build specifically for Vicks NyQuil's cousin? doubt it.

@coppiThat: i dont know, i think it must of just been a stage, i have tried to find out some info on it and what i have found is quite a few people would win it so i guess he just won a stage..ill ask him when he gets back as hes staying for the week...but i completely doubt it was the whole thing as hes a right lazy fucker...
@ Ed: Its really for aesthetic purposes..its made of Reynolds 500..not certain about how much to budget, i thought 500 quid would be about right, ive never done a new build before so maybe i have gone a bit high and it wouldnt cost that much to do? just doing it for a bit of fun really

thats what they did..if you won the race you were fitted and a while later you would have this new bike..i believe they are quite rare as they were only built for the kids who won the races..maybe someone who is in there mid 30's or early 40's can remember? -

'fitted' being the key word, they basically just choose the right size frame for his height, adjust the stem and saddle, and then bob's your uncle.
in all honestly, £500 is quite a lots of money to spend on this frame, it would be much cheaper to buy another old 70's road bike and swap the part over (like £30-60 top) if you're really keen on keeping the Dawes.

the bits I bought from The Crane attached to new frame:

yeah..your probably right..i think the main reason i wanna do this is just to build a nice old looking bike..

what is your cousins name? it would be easy to find out if he won a stage or the Whole thing. to have been in the milk race he would have been on the national squad at least.

hmm you can try...ive been looking all morning for info on the milk race and you dont get much...and the few things i have found were about people winning them..so i doubt you would have to be on a national squad..that sounds like a presumption to me -

Woah there! cattleprods nyquil to death
5-600 quid, what you going to do, gold plate it?
Restore it geared, it'll look shite as a fixed.
Oh and i am half expecting to see it with Deep V's and a Spoke Card in a couple of weeks
