As I said the other day mate, this thing will look like a totally different beast with some new forks. Pref black.
Agreed, maybe with a p2 style fork? I'd say a shorter stem too and then it'll be a mighty fine bike

How do you inch steerer boys deal with stems? Shim them or can you get 1" OK?
Shim. 1" stems are becoming ever more rare.
You're not going to have an aheadset on this new bike are you? That's like modern and shit, innit.

better stem pic please!
Ceeway stem kit, 40% Silver filler, rushed brazing and left rather half polished, but I kind of like it a bit warty, suits the bike better that way.

Almost finished with my Gazelle, still just need a Campag aero or fluted SR seatpost!

finished the Condor, I'm really pleased the chain line is fine and it doesn't make a sound.eventually will be 1/8th rather than the skinny though the vintage suntour chain is nice, Andel crank, mks pedals, nos merckx straps, regal saddle, condor seat post, criteriums, nos 600 lever, nos brake caliper(thnks phil pajamas), and I am experimenting with hand cut leather bar tape, which just needs sewing together now, the short strips look nice so will join them up...
I did about 4 miles on it yesterday, it's slightly big though I knew that when I bought it. I wanted to do a purple bike with black and I think it looks hot, It was fgoing to wear the silver/black 600 groupset, Though I have another purple frame to play with and that will now go on that dframe instead. -

Doesn't look like it...

@ Wingedangelinteresting you say that. I'm currently thinking my frame is too big.
If this isn't a sensitive question:
when standing over the bike, what's the distance from toptube to man-glands? -
• #24009
Big? It looks like it fits you, Winge dangel.
Saddle angle and bartape... then it's finished ;)
Kidding, looks nice.

On a road bike, only a inch or two unless it's very sloping like the original compact Giants

ah ok thanks, and any rough ideas for standing height for track bike?

There are some nice 1" stems about.
For example:

Titanium 3T (TTT)£15!

really though, standover is about 20mm...
-
• #24014
ahh thanks!
shame you had them removed before the days of replacement carbon man-glands.
(hoping somebody doesn't photoshop this) -

Depends on the era. Old school would be the same as a road bike, with the bars lowered by using a track stem. Modern style is to use a small frame with a long seat post and an upward sloping stem, so standover clearance is increased by an inch or two.

I've been messing around with cameras this morning, as I haven't been getting anything like the quality I should from my 400d,
What lense(s) are you using? Using a good lens is often more important that what camera body you have, assuming it's a modern DSLR like the 400D.

Looks ace SP! :-)
Just wait 'til Ed gets on here :-(

Just been using a Canon 28-135mm (f3.5-5.6) for these, that my Da uses with his 40d.
From almost the word go I've been disappointed with my 400d + kit lense... it rarely ever gives a sharp image no matter how much twiddling I do. I suspected it might be because something somewhere was misaligned perhaps. The above photos are a lot sharper. Maybe it's time to invest in some new 'glass' (just to wind Mr. Smyth up).
I'm a total novice and my technique is complete trial and error, so maybe I should work on that too.
-
• #24022
I have a 400D too. Invest in some lenses. The 18-55mm kit lens is shit.
My favourite lens of all time is the Canon L 35mm f/1.4. Not cheap though...
-
• #24023
I have the lowest end Sony DSLR now and the lens is AWESOME (imagine that spoken in a nasal LA accent please).
SP your bike is too clean.
sort it out bruv.my current project is, having gotten my GH2 back from Holdsworth to spread the word that paragon sliding dropout bolts are made of cheese.
Philadelphia light in fact.and i just ordered a Sram i Motion 9.
and a rear rack.
and got a few freelance editing/ article writing jobs to pay for it.
yay. -

So am I way off the mark suggesting that summink is actually wrong with it? I realise you can't possibly know without looking at it, but are they pretty robust usually?
My girlfriend has a ridiculous collection of lenses, I might pinch one!
-
• #24025
They are quite robust, but the main problem is it is just a shit lens. I haven't used mine in 3 years.
If she has any Canon EF lenses then fucken go for it! I saw her Flickr a while back... nice stuff.
Fuck sake.
Thats the second lo-pro you have sniped off my fucking hands in as many months.
grumble
grumble
I will have this one if you opt for selling it, as it is very low :)
