You must spread some reputation around before giving it to mdcc_tester again.

Oh, I was looking for these tires for the Grubb. Cheers.

  • beward, they're not puncture-resistance let alone design for everyday city riding.

  • with ma skillz it doesn't matter. I puncture everything anyway, running tubs on other bikes.

  • OK,

So I have come back from a big drink (relax children, it's past dinner time in my timezone) and have decided to take to the dog bike with paint stripper.

Couple of hours of rubbing and ta-daa.....still needs clear coat. Sun has long since set so - not the best pic (not the best bike either.)

    Cheers

  • It actually look rather tidy that.

  • They 27" wheels?

  • This photos definitely show how shiny the rims are;

  • Singlespeed beater pub/shopper bike from my old Holdsworth, about its third incarnation now I think. Planning to get a rack/basket type affair for the front sometime. It's mostly been built from bits I already had/forum or CRC bargains, so pengy but very cheap.

  • Put on the SLR from Joe1983. Don't know how my rear will like it over the Flite yet.
    Sorry for the dark photo.

    fucking ace!

    Stunning.

  • Can someone direct me to a thread about chains...? I want some help in picking new chain, but I can't find anything helpful on the forum. I'm sure there is info on here, but it's hiding.

  • kmc D101 FTW

  • I've got an Izumi Supertough which I like - I might get that again...

Get this one the KMC Z510 http://www.parker-international.co.uk/6104/KMC-Z510-Silver-1-8--Track-Chain.html its £5.95 so you can't go wrong. Its been a great chain for me.

Why spend £30 on an njs chain when you can buy 5 of these for the same price!

edit: Its also the quietest chain i have ever used.

  • I want a decent chain, not a cheap one. I get what you're saying, but IMO experience more expensive chains run a hell of a lot better than cheaper ones. Why would I buy 5 chains that don't run very well, when I could buy 1 which would run really well throughout its entire lifespan..?

  • Just get the £6 jobbie, they all last ages if well maintained.

  • Cheers, for the offer, but I want a decent chain. I've used a few cheaper ones, and in general I agree with you theory. But Expensive chains last a hell of a lot longer, and run smoother throughout.

Why would I buy 5 chains that don't run very well, when I could buy one that runs really well for ages!

Fair enough, but i used the z510 for a whole year with no problems.
and trust me i don't get things because they are cheap i just bought a titanium phil wood bb :)

exactly, i remove the chain once a month, give it a proper clean, put it back and it goes back to being smooth as ever! its the grit which builds up on the chain that can eventualy wear it down.

  • Seconded, a cheap chain, well maintained is fine. Just get a cheap one and maintain properly.

    I run a £10 Izumi chain and it's fine.

  • I've run 3 £10 Izumi's in the past, and I'm running one right now (which is also the one I've been having problems with, and which needs replacing).

  • I run two KMZ chains (one half-link) and they're fine. One cost me like £5 and the other maybe £15.
I also have Izumi chain which was second-hand. I've cleaned it and it runs quite smoothly. Quieter the the new KMZ ones.
