Wow what lacing is that? Are the spokes bent because it needs truing or will they stay like that? Or are they not bent at all and its some sort of Celtic-looking optical illusion?
-
• #23436
they are a little bent and do need destressed and trued so will straighten out a bit. its 3 leading 3 trailing. really easy, same length spokes as 3X. you don't have to lace them for the front but I like the curves it makes

Are you building some sort of Art Deco bike?
Looks nice. Does it work nicely too? -
• #23438
badly hung over attempt on a 3x front wheel - i know for a fact, as my first (few) attempt(s) looked just like it.
on a more respectful note, congrats to your unusual front.

They're bent because it's interlaced the wrong way

exactly, i remove the chain once a month, give it a proper clean, put it back and it goes back to being smooth as ever! its the grit which builds up on the chain that can eventualy wear it down.
It still stretches though... the more money you spend on a chain the longer it takes to stretch!
Z510's last about 5-6 months of riding. If you think there is nothing wrong you should get it checked with a chain checker. If it's stretched you wont really know with out doing this, it will also start to wear down the teeth on your sprocket and chainring, before you know it... new drive train is in order.

More expensive chains last longer as the metal plates are made to higher tolerances. This means the pins will take longer to wear out/increase the size of the holes they are sitting in, i.e. the chain will take longer to "stretch".

have now almost 6000mi (in shit and on sunny sundays) on my kmc 510 HX.
tough thing, this! still has some life left but
i'm very tempted by these for maintenance replacement. i love the descriptive and short name. opinions anyone?^ YBN MK747 Super Light Kool BMX Chain
Be a little bit careful with YBN chains. I bought one about 4-5 years ago (a half-link one) for £10. It ran perfectly on my bmx, which means I gave it a beating, and then after 2 years it snapped twice in a week. This is fair enough, what pisses me off is that I bought one recently and the quality of them now is half of what it used to be. They're now built to such low tolerances that you can almost make the chain go in a cicrle sideways. I've had a few that seem a little lose, but the last YBN I had was just rediculous. This is not something you want on a fixed gear when you demand a lot of a chain and need it to stay straight.
So I went out and bought the standard KMC kool chain for about £11-12 and it's perfect. It needs a clean, yes, but other than that runs excellently. I run them on my fixed and my bmx. -

will stay with me kmc's then, but i do like these part of the chain pin and plates that where filled with air on those, but the kmc one like this ^ but with holes was around 30squids. i feel 15 is a good budget for me everyday mile_eater chain. -

This gold will rub off eventually. My IZUMI used to be gold and now looks like someone pissed on it.
I saved few spare links and there's a big difference in colour.
Yeah, I do quite like the cheaper Izumis, and up until now I haven't really had any problems with them (other than them being a bit noisy). Think i'm going to get a supertough - they're tried and tested, and definiteyl decent.
