the key is in the name; hood.
I like riding on the hood most of the time, no way i'm spending £35 for a "dummy" brake levers.
i just don't see the point of having two working levers, but no brake.
it's just bizarre to the max.

read this article start to finish and you'll be a lot closer to knowing what to get. -

innit, I reckon 35squids not too bad, and the dummy levers would probably look less silly....maybe....

I read up to handle bar height. I'll only know the angle of the seat post by trying a few bikes it seems. Thanks guys it is very informative. Okay back to it

Ugliest bike part ever?! Looks like a gnarly vulture.
-
• #21082
I got the Modolo brake levers for a fiver.
As Josh said, the dummy lever's pretty ugly.
-
• #21083
looks has nothing to do with it....
it just seems like common sense in reverse.
-
• #21084
Not really, it's like saying it's useless riding brakeless if you have holes for both front and rear brakes, useless riding a track bike on a road, etc.
the levers are there for comfort, it's quite comfortable riding on the hood for a long period of time than on the top, but that's just personal preference really.

Respect to you Ed, you're very uncompromising on comfort and practicality these days. It's good to hear about someone buzzing off such things for once.

I like riding on hoods too, buildin my new project with drops(on flats atm) and gonna put a rear brake on as well cos I thought i'd look daft to only have 1 lever hooked up.
If it does the job and is more comfortable than the bob then more power to you. -
• #21087
Surely its all about the image.
VB I think the forum has been taken over. Help usssssssss.
-
• #21088
or you could just use bullhorns, hands in same place as on hoods but no need for brake levers that don't do anything (obvious negative point of having no drop part to the bar any more but some people probably don't use that bit)
-
• #21089
and then no drop position. hence his set up. makes perfect sense.
-
• #21090
and then no drop position.
thought I pointed that out already :-)
Yes, as long as comfortable then fine. But if I was going to have brake levers/hoods I would put a brake/brakes on (no reason not too really is there as it is half way there already?)
-
• #21091
Another advantage - being able to run a front brake if I so wished (useful for caning it at Richmond).
-
• #21092
I used to run dummy hoods on my old bike before it got nicked, as Ed says, it a really nice position to ride in, especially on hills...
all i did with mine was remove the lever, which is destructive for sure, but i had the hoods, which is what i wanted.

So I got the Olmo in the post Yesterday. Was relieved to find it took a 650c up front rather then a 24". Slight disappointed that I couldnt use my kick ASS NOS Zeus post as it turned out to be 26.8 not the 27.2 advertised. But thankfully the shop had a single 26.8 Campag Aero post. So bunged that in there, and then the puppy killing commenced.
Just thrown all the parts on I have lying around. Gonna take the Gippiemme BB out (too long) and replace it with my dear friend phil and need to change the horrid looking rear wheel. Trying to decide if it should be a black rim or a chrome one (Opinions?), and how deep it should be. Will sort out some alternative bars too, Mavic pursuit would be ideal, but I can't find any so it may have to be Cinelli LA84s or Profile Design.
Will take it for its maiden voyage the whole mile point five to work in the morning. Hoping the poor chain alignment doesn't kill me and the brand spanking new Tufo Tub doesn't ping off (first one I've ever put on).
Pic Below. Its shit iPhone quality on a very busy background. Ha. Photographer I am not.

EDIT: The seat post comes out at a crazy steep 79 degrees.

Are you a bit worried about having too much weight on the handlebar due to the seatpost angle?
-
• #21100
when you take it out for a spin take a camera with you- would be nice to see the bike in all its glory.

wheel size info
Some parts are compatible, some aren't. Depends on age of frame and country of origin mostly.
