  • @ ed, I can't recommend the Vittoria Randonneur Trail 38s enough.
Despite your issues with that brand, they're pretty simple to fit
    (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Vittoria_Randonneur_Trail_City_Tyre/5360035187/)

    please :)

  • And I was taking the piss!

  • You bought a wimmins bike Ed....

    :o

  • Nope;

  • Looks just like that one ^ ooop there ^

  • Yeah, and my bank balance is suffering!

I salvaged the saddle (an old s. italia flight) and that's about the only freebie on it.

Parts list of the top of my head: Phil Woods laced to Mavic Open Pros w/ Randos; Thomson seatpost; Izumi 'Super Toughness' chain (bought it for the name on the box alone! ;-)); MKS cheap track pedals with LL clips (free nylon straps will be changed forthwith); Nitto Technomic stem; Nitto B125 bars; Sugino 75 w/ Zen ring (I actually ordered the SG75 ring but was sent a Zen); Campag Centaur bb.

You need a better BB and Frame.

For the moment I like the frame, it's 853, fits me perfectly, has pretty tight geometry for a 90's road frame, welds are good quality, paint work is nearly mint, could with new decals or without them altogether, and it was a good bargain IMO.

Might upgrade the BB in a bit but it's the headset that currently warrants the most attention.

Still at least I've bank-rolled a decent parts set-up if I ever get the cash and/or inclination to get a new frame.

  • Nothing wrong with Campag Centaur, it's a bottom bracket, not some object of desire! ignore Harry, he just want to sell you some Polish frame.

good bike thought, look like you got yourself a great deal.

  • If I were to change either the frame or bottom bracket, I would change the frame. But that's just me.

If you are happy with it, then so be it.

  • Nice Ed - that Basket/rack dude makes some lovely stuff

  • though.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • (t)

  • prett much finished the Gazelle
    mostly Dura Ace and Sugino

    What rims are those mate?

  • the other thing I'll add is a frame fixing front rack, a much better alternative to the more expensive CETMA rack.

    Hi Ed,

I was almost about to buy a Cetma rack when I found this -

    http://www.rutlandcycling.com/18105/Basil-Memories-Front-Carrier.html

For 23 of your queen's pounds.

It's the same dimensions as the Cetma 5-bar and I think is from the same manufacturer as the ones sold by David Hembrow (the wicker basket guy). I ordered mine two days ago, I will post up a review when it arrives.

    Cheers,

    John

  • Pretty much finished the master pista

Totally amazing mate. Great set up. Gotta love the sherrif stars too.

I've seen those, but I'm going for the frame mounted rack because of one particular reason (amongst other); it's removable, very handy.

thank for mentioning an alternative thought, these look really good, I'll just need to ask the queen for some pounds.

    incidentally, I've just discovered this;

    http://www.rutlandcycling.com/17873/Kona-Smoke-700c-Hybrid-Commuter-Bike.html

    really good value at £200.

  • What rims are those mate?

    its araya vx300's
very cheap but i think they look pretty good in this setup

just want a kashimax saddle (anybody got one laying around?) and a nitto cockpit to get the bike all japanese

  • This is so much towaddle I can't be bothered to even start.

Go easy on him, he hasn't been doing this for long.

  • I really like the way those tyres are sometime like a lightbulb.

  • @Ed: Is the build quality good on the globe? my fuji track I use for commuting is dying a slow death and I'm thinking of picking up a 'roll 2' and maybe a 'live' for my girlfriend to move her ceramics around on (HEAVY). They both seem like a lot of bike for the money

  • hahaha the poll was closed pretty quick no?

i remember something very similar at tour de ville and then more recently at the new years day jumble at herne hill.

nice baby black fixie you have.

  • That'd look sick to the power of rad with risers and pink tyres.

  • Why don't you test it out and see how it ride? Brixton Cycles have some for you to try.

As for your missus, tell her to test out both the Live and Haul, they're both superb value for money, the only major change I'd recommend is to change the kickstand into a double legs one as it's a lots more useful being able to keep the bike upright with the load.

I like the Live more, it's fun to ride, zippier and noticably lighter, but the Haul seemed more practical with a build-in rear rack and longer wheelbase.

  • Ah I'm a norhterner mate - nowhere seems to actually have any up here yet - Evans' wont fetch me one to try unless I put a deposit down (?!)

We've just been chatting about it actually and a 'Haul' would probably be better - rear racks are much more manageable when heavy loaded. Won't be for a while anyhoo (I've got new bikes to buy for me first!!)

  • good lord Ed..... and you call eveyone else a hipster????

    jeez.....
