currently working on this little shitter...
only started on saturday when i picked it up from my Dad, stripped it down, added an old goldfinger lever from my BMX days, paired that up to the original brake. all it needs for now is a new set of wheels and tubes. but long time plans are to gradually replace everything. The bar tape has been on there around 20 years and is stuck fast! my dad doesnt do anything by halves! haha.
im goin to see Ken at Kiwi on saturday to see if he can sort me out with some new wheels,
let me know what you think. i have built MTB's and BMX's before but this is my first fixie build and im not to cued up on them.
thanks,
ben.

I had a falcon when I was a kid. They're nothing special but thats fine really if its your first fixed wheel. Most likely its pretty heavy.
My advice would be either to get a decent wheel set and use them on your next build when/if you decide to upgrade the frame. My other advice would be to reuse what you can before you go and spend too much money (by which point it may have been worth buying a new bike).
Personally I'd just get a rear wheel and then be sure you can buy the front when you need to. If you really like it then maybe it'd be worth getting a new bike and selling the rear wheel (it'll sell no problem, plenty of ppl doing conversions).

its actually quite light.
that is my plan, to get some decent wheels, so that i won't have to upgrade when i get a new bike/ frame.
i am planning on reuse what i can, as a lot of the bits on the bike are actually ok. all i really need are new wheels. i do need both front and back really, as i am a little frightened of how the wheels that are currently on it look! every spoke is rusty and wobbly! not sure i should risk it! haha
thanks for the advise, it is very appreciated.

Bit of both...
Can't wait to get it on the road.ah so your additional height adds to the camera angle which adds again to the perception of size... there must be a formula to work this out.
That is a nice frame!

#No thanks to the lights fred seems to think I'd like, I'm after some oil lamps these days for my edwardian build, it's all about the pre-1913 safety bikes for 09, funny chains FTW

all this takes me back to when I started out racing a while ago. Rode with Clarence Wheelers, which was run by a lovely old bloke called Alf. He had a thing for fixed and used to make all his young riders do a few seasons on fixed before putting them on geared bikes.
One bike I had for a while stuck in my memory: a Geoffrey Butler 753 in white with red graphics and red airlite hubs with Clement silks. I rode that at Hearne Hill a few times and took it to Calshott for some scarey sessions. We also had a track tandem available, witch was terrifyingly fast around there. Nice tho.

Well i have just purchased my first fixie so its a nice little project for me.Brought it for £200.
Going to do a red and white theme(white frame and forks, red parts)
So far i have order a few bits
Brown bar tape
Hope bar ends(red)
14mm nuts(red)
Qr anti theft skewers(red)
Seat clamp bolt(red)I should get some stripping and painting done soon(need a nice hot weekend).Would like a brown seat too but its not a top issue at the moment.
Pictures
Well done a bit since then.Painted it yellow(was a nightmare to do as i thought it was paint but actually it was powered coat so had to strip it by hand, then used etch primer, filler primer and white primmer just to fill in the marks on it).Added quite a few new parts too and i do have some mks pedals with cages and straps but just got some new double straps off ebay for £10.25 so i am going to fit them to the pedals before i fit pedals to bike.Pictures,

nice build, like the stem. -
• #1897
yeah, i will photograph it properly when its finished, the graphics are beautiful that are going on... cant wait!
i have a 110mm stem too but its a 0º instead of -17º but i could probably do with the extra length

that lever feels great!
looking forward to riding it to really see
If you have drop levers then it always looks better with two. Also riding on the hoods ftw.
