I actually bought that VO one but the leather was really thick and spongy, with a dreadful shit yellow colour.
Thats because its made of the same stuff they use for the elkhide sew-on bar covers.

Just finished my bike. It's built around a 531cs frame which I had powder coated at Armourtex (RAL 9007).
Most of the other parts are nothing special, but it is a really nice ride none the less.
Hoping to get black vinyl decals printed for the frame and I'm changing the front wheel to a black Aerospoke (I know, I know!).
If any of you are interested in the current one (Campagnolo Proton) then drop me a PM before I put it up in Classifieds.http://static.londonfgss.com/memberpics7786-albums889-picture5522.jpg

Looks really good Tom. You did it much better justice thean i could've mustered. Why didn't you fill then dent before painting though?
Also, don't put a flipping aerospoke on it, it'll ruin it IMO.
Also also, I would raise the stem out of the frame a bit for a more comfortable riding position. Having said that, for all i know it could already be a comfortable riding position for you.Good work!

Cheers Jamie - you can have a ride next time I'm down at Souths.
I got a friend who's a frame builder to completely debraze it which made a big difference. I spoke to Armourtex on the phone though before I had it sprayed and they said that any filler would be burnt off when it came to painting it. I am going to put some bar tape around it to protect the top tube anyway I think. I have designed some pretty sweet decals, based on the originals which should finish it off nicely.
Ah, the Spok is so temping though, and I can get one really cheaply.
Cheers for the advice about the stem, but it is comfortable as it is at the moment, gives my lanky arms enough reach down to the bars :D
Thanks again, drop me a message next time you are heading down to Souths! -

I almost have a soft spot/guilty pleasure when it comes to Spok's. But for that build, one just wouldn't fit. If you're planning another more modern looking build, which will eventually end up with the Spok then go for it. But i think most would agree that it wouldn't look right on that bike.
If you can get it cheap, buy it for another project. You could even buy it for cheap, and then sell it for a profit!
Shame about the dent, I thought that filler might not have withstood powdercoating, but i thought that lead filler might have... anyway, it doesn;t really matter. As i said, i think the bike looks great as is.
Get some tape on those bars boy!

Curently building up a coppi road frame as a fixed conversion.
Does anyone have a surly/on-one rear hub that is 135mm?
Or does anyone know a shop in london that sells.
With the current postal situation, i dont wanna order online... -

you sure your coppi is 135? it's more likely to be 130 and you can easily cold set the frame to 120 with a bit of muscle (not that much if i can do it!)

finished!
well i say finished, but no bike of mine is ever really finished, due to lack of money and patience i went for thomson stem and seat post, but those will probably be gone at some stage, al the bb will probably be upgraded, and a few other things that will only be improvements on a very solid bike
this bike is a joy to ride, even in the wet, a little bit squirrely in the wet at speed, but still a lot less tiring and a lot smoother than the old pearson

Here's my project. (It's a touring bike, please ignore the derailleur hanger.) Lots of filing and shaping to do yet - the joint in the foreground is the only one that's been smoothed. Getting a bit carried away and thinking about rounding off all the edges - the shoulders on the lugs, the seat post clamp, the fork crown, everything. I like the idea of giving it a liquid look, as if the whole thing is a one piece organism. And having unmodified off the shelf lugs from Ceeway on a bike you've built yourself seems like a missed opportunity. (I built it on Dave Yates' course.)
Am also not sure whether to get any components painted. I was going for an old school look - just paint the frame pearl white and have polished components. But maybe that's boring. Why not an electric blue frame with matching seat post and stem? I dunno. Could also paint the gear levers, the chainring (a big aero Rotor Cranks thing), the headset...where does it end? I even caught myself lusting after chrome bar tape on this shouty red Walker. http://www.londonfgss.com/thread29-386.html#post894889
I suppose the only things I can't paint are the white saddle with world champion stripes. And the white brake hoods. And the grey cables. And I wouldn't paint the wheels. Got to decide asap though - I'm going travelling on it in 6 weeks.
I actually bought that VO one but the leather was really thick and spongy, with a dreadful shit yellow colour.
