ok i am almost done here. Does anybody have a 15 ss sprocket for 3/32 or a 44 chainring and a halflink, also a nice shortish black stem would be cool, 15-25 degrees up but still roadbike looking and i would be one happy bunny. shall i putt drops and a cross lever on?

Superfurry, I don't like the forks on that frame..
Fair point.
They do look a bit chunky on the steel frame. But when I get the 2.55 tyres on, it wont be so noticeble I hope.
The big yellow decals dont match the, already hectic, colour scheme* in the slightest either. But they are under a few layers of undercoat, and frankly I'm too scared to try and remove them. The mix of handmade steel frame and modern carbon finishing kit is not the most asthetically pleasing in the world admittedly. I want the bike to give about as much comfort as you can expect from a fully rigid off-roader, while being nice and light. Basically (as with my fixed) I just want something that will put the biggest smile on my face, while riding.
(*metal flaked biege, bare carbon, hope gunsmoke, and hipster white :S )

Superstar components.
http://www.superstarcomponents.com/ForkProduct.htmlExactly like the Exotic ones
Superstar dont have them anymore. I seem to remember paying around £50 for them when they were selling off the last few. I wanted a pair of Pace carbon forks, but could'nt justify the extra cost.
Lots of new ones on the market now that dont seem to feel the need to look like sus forks. Niner, Ritchey, etc.

Mrlemon, it's tiny. I don't know if you're meant to measure a lo pro differently? Seat tube is 50cm centre to top. Need to do some research re $$...

I don't see a problem with converting a nice road bike to fixed, as long as you leave the frame alone and keep it in good nick for future re-gearing. In its (hopefully) long life, a couple of years fixed is a blip.

I´m sorry, but the bars look awfully out of place on that. Try some shorter bulls maybe.

yeah a fixed gear bike would be no use at all in London.

i agee, they are still the originals, waiting for a cress lever and then i will try drop bars or shorten them. the stem also looks shit by the way..

Oh FFS, please. Aren't you so clever and witty. Funnily enough i already ride fixed everyday, but try commuting from Ladbroke Grove to Cockfosters on a brakeless fixed. when your legs fall off ill be laughing.
Sometimes (god forbid) gears are actually a good thing.

I love tackling hills fixed. Would'nt want to do it on my daily commute though. I need to save my aging knees for other sports.
carry on :)

• #16663
I enjoy tackling hills fixed as well, to a point. but having done the run to uni and back once on my fixed I just couldnt do it multiple times a week. would shred my knees to pieces in weeks.

thanks for all the nice comments
Benotto pistas are lovely. What size?
I think you're obligated to use blue Benotto tape.
size 56 - theres no frame number, just the size stamped in.
and this was never ment to be an all original period correct build. so i'm not obliged to anything. besides, i like the point that all the contact points on the bike are white (gonna put white leather bar wrap on at some point).
btw, my avatat shows a pic of francesco moser on a benotto track bike with white handlebar tape ;-pbeauty Dron, what rims are they?
araya ct19n
I agree... And then you will need Benotto bar ends of the same colour... I have this at home from a lot of handle bars I recently bough:
I'll be pleased to give them to you if you are interested...
Let me know
Loic
thank you very much. i'll seriously consider it. will you post?- do you happen to have a pair in white...?

MrLemon, if you'd actually read the thread then you would see that I was the first to advise him not to 'fixxy her up'. I think I need to start putting smiley faces on things so people know I'm joking.

wapow! that hetchins is amazing! is it NOS, or has it been restored? or are they still being made?
that would definitely be a bike for life
edit: just checked and they are still being made.. Classic bikes like that are amazing, like the jag e-types of the bike world, while all the spokked be-risered HHSBs look like they should be featured in the bike version of max power

i think they are still being made, i cant remember my boss was telling me about it a while ago, apparently in the 80's they were bought by a record label or something and nw are made for musicians or something similar. he has one that was built for Van morrison's drummer and its fucking gorgeous

Heresy I know (or something like that) but I don't actually like Hetchins/ornate lugged type of frame!
Appreciate the skills, techniques etc,. and understand why almost everyone would like them but not a bike I would want to own at all.
To me a well crafted and clean looking Ti frame suits my minimalist eye (which I guess is the complete opposite of the Hetchins)There, I feel better now :-)

that handlebar/stem combo surely negates the point of having a lo-pro, the saddle to bar drop is no more than a regular road bike...
nice frame though
single speed and single brake thumbs down

Just finished lacing my wheels together.
On-One 32H hubs - £35.75
Ritchy Vantage Pro rim - £20
ACI spokes - 18.24
Rim tape - £2.40
**
Total - £76.39**
... just need to true and tension... thought I'd give myself a break before I set to the hard part.
I originaly wanted black spokes + nips, but couldn't justify the extra cost for a bugget build.
I've just turned my mountain bike into an SS commuter
after winter is finished and I can take my nice bike out, I'm going to put cyclocross wheels on it and start doing woodland trails and stuff, can't wait. I'm disappointed I never had chance to do any this year
