  • Yeah it's pretty big, I can't remmeber the size of the top of my head though and I don't have anything to measure it here.

I bought it off aa good friend who rides a fixed, he said it'd be fine - I trust his judgement :)

It was the first question I asked cause I'm pretty damn tall!

You've yet to meet Maxcrowe, he's a fookin giant

good going mate, it's all too often I've seen people buying big frame for cheap, painting them, building them up, and end up realising it's far too big nowadays.

Ah ok, I was worried you thought it was too small lol, I'm 6ft 3.

Cheers for the heads up though, much appreciated!

  • While it's been away I got these off a mate for £5.
and made them look like this...

    Gorgeous looking bars, nice work!

  • Spent last night coating the threads of some lovely black (rasist) revolution spokes with spoke-prep. Greasing the shoulders* of some black (again with the rasism) nipples; and de-stickering/waxing some nice white (hipster) rims.

Pleeeeaaaaase mr postman deliver my hubs today.

(*I'm expecting these skinny spokes to wind up like feck)

ED: for those interested in such things. The build will be
Hope Pro II SS/trials hubs (gunsmoke), laced 3x with 32 DT Revolution spokes (black), to Velocity Blunt 29er rims (white).

    Nice.

  • Nice.

    Cheers.

Its a bit of a mix of colours, but should fit the bike (off-roaders are'nt supposed to be classy in my book).

Frame = off-white with metal flake
Bars, seatpost, forks, spokes, and crankset = Black
Saddle, grips, and rims = White
Hubs, brake discs/levers, headset, seatpost clamp, grip doctors = Hope gunsmoke

Should build up to be around 9Kg, which is pretty good for a 29er XC bike I reckon.

  • Racist and sexist!

  • Racist and sexist!

Rasist, hipster slave-ish, and partly xenophobic. But not sexist surely.

  • 32 revolution! that's not a lot of spoke. will they hold up off the road?

:-) This made me sweat: "Greasing the shoulders of some black nipples"

The rims are pretty solid, both wheels are dishless (nearly), and I'm only small. But none the less, they could only really be classed as lightweight XC wheels.

Hopefully the thin nature of the spokes and the build pattern will lead to a light weight, and compliant, wheelset.

My concern is the fact that the bike is fully rigid. I figure this could lead to the wheels getting a rougher ride. This has'nt been taken into account really.

I was tempted to go for DT super comps because...
    A) they are thicker near the hub, which is good for disc brake set-ups.
    B) they are thinner at the threaded end, which means a thicker-walled nipple, which is a good idea if using alloy nipples.

But I already had the correct lengh and gauge nipples (worse excuse ever).

Wheelsmith advise you to grease the contact point between nipple and eye, and I certainly aint greasing my eyes.*

    (*gets coat)

  • Some shit phone pix of my new build.... sorry for the size.

Going to try the vinigar soak thing I've heard ppl talk about and then t-cut to get some of the colour back. [if anyone has any tips on this pls let me know]

It's never going to look mint without a respray, but I just want to take care of the rust and tidy it up.

going for black wheelset as per this pic...

... going to build them myself. A bit anoyed as the on-one hubs have taken ages to come and the front is gloss black and the back is matt... really can't risk RM fucking things up so going to stick with it.... black or silver spokes??? - I thought black

  • black or silver spokes??? - I thought black

    I'd go with silver.

  • my new polo-project

  • @ maxcrowe - Is that just personal pref...

...or do you recon the blacks won't match properly with the grey ano rims?

Or is it bc its an old frame?

  • That archie W looks awesome - the website pics are a bit shit, so its good to see what it really looks like.

Whats it like to ride? - is it heavy?

  • it' was used for one cyclespeedway season but in good condition. i didn't ride it until now, because at first i'll need a rear brake with long brackets. and i'll have to change the handlebar...

  • I've always been curious what they're like, bc for £200 new it seems like a good deal.

  • nearly new. the seller bought it new for 335 pounds and i've paid 200, which was ok for me

  • my new polo-project

Change the bars? For why? That looks super. Is that how it comes for £330?

  • yes. and my knees don't like the ends of the bar

  • I guess the parts have been upgraded... is it this frame?

I think a mix of both, but personally I wouldn't use black spokes ever unless I was building an all-black bike.
