That actually sounds pretty cool when you say it out loud but pronounce the 'ham' as "ham".

New track bike project.
Not so much of a project, it's going to be pretty easy. Most of the stuff is already there. Regular track bike for racing on the velodrome, mainly modern parts.
Got this baby today. Same as with all other babies, it's ugly when you get it.
It was not for free, but for rediculously little money. Seller even has a 2nd one to go...Frame and fork Columbus steel. Roto BB-shell, possibly Cinelli fork crown, Campag dropouts. Made by a guy named Regter. Think he moved to Ireland in the 1980's. He made Reco frames. I worked with his son in law, but never met the man himself. Frame was custom built for Aart van de Kruisweg and he won loads of national track championships. Later, the bike was used by Peter van Ommen, also a track ace in NL.
Frame size 58.5cm c-t-t, top tube length 57cm c-t-c
I went for the F&F only, but for the same price I got the whole bike:- Sugino cranks 151mm BCD 165mm length with 5 rings!!!
- Campag BB English thread
- Campag Record Strada threaded headset
- Campag Record 27.2mm seatpost
- Very good condition Rolls black saddle
- Cinelli 65-42 bars w/o scrathes
- Cinell1 1R stem 13cm
- DID chain 1/8
- Suntour 16T cog
- C-Record pedals with Campag steel toeclips "L" and double Vetta Sprint straps
- Wheels: Mavic Track hubs, 2x36 DB spokes, tied and soldered, Pariba Clinchers, Rigida SX 100 clincher rims never used with brakes .
Think I'll powdercoat F&F glosssy black with some vinyl artwork from porter7474 (???)
As mentioned before, some parts will be sold to compensate for the other costs.
Anyone interested in track wheels, crankset, rings, BB, stem ???
Perhaps it will be placed in the Classified section. - Sugino cranks 151mm BCD 165mm length with 5 rings!!!

No it's really ugly, so it needs a paintjob.
The wheels with Mavic hubs are a lot nicer an will go. :-( -

I hope you're getting it painted the same colour again though... ^^

Just chopped my Brooks B17 Special, didn't want a Swallow type job so it's a sort of Swift/ Turbo style bastardisation... Going to Mangle it next and I'll get some pics up then ;)

Finished! Meant to be a bit of beater but the componentry ended up being quite nice.
-
• #16138
Looks nice, but how often does that happen - supposed to be a beater but then turns out nicer than expected.
-
• #16139
Got the frame back today, not sure on the brown - colour match didn't work out as well as planned - i'll see when all the other brown bits go on.
J.Dennis, thats not really much of a beater really!

My first modern (ish) road bike, Giant 8200. Spent the days fixing the gears, truing, degreasing and re-greasing etc and some new tape. Other than some new vittorias, got a ti flite and that should be it for now. Cant wait to get some decent miles and long rides in!

You did a great job there - loads of elbow grease.

Cheers, I liked the embossed emblem on it so figured I'd bring it back to it's former glory - worth the effort I reckon! (plus it only cost me £5 haha... :P)

What was your method? Wet'n'dry with some polishing compound?
I'm asking, because I've got an anodised 3TT stem with nice Moscow bars - they also have elaborate embossed logos, but the finish is dull. They're NOS, so I don't want to scratch them up and prefer to take it slowly. I can't really chuck the stem into some kind of bath with caustic soda, because of the rubber seal on the front (it's the kind of hinged stem which opens up). -

But I got some 240 grit and just blasted over them with one of those mouse sanders. I was careful around the embossed bits but I did go over them.
Then I used 1200 grit and like you said wet and dried them about 4/5 times and then finished them off with some metal polish which is like a abrasive compound - I can't remmeber the name, I borrowed it off a mate, I know it's expensive but it did the trick!
This is during.. as you can see I wasn't shy about it, I took a lot of the metal away lol
I did take every blemish off I could - before I thought I might have gotten white finger from the vibrations haha!

Yeah it's pretty big, I can't remmeber the size of the top of my head though and I don't have anything to measure it here.
I bought it off aa good friend who rides a fixed, he said it'd be fine - I trust his judgement :)
It was the first question I asked cause I'm pretty damn tall!
That is pretty fucking lazy! I'm at Wests weekly and I'm in Twickenham.
Twickenham, Kingston, same shit different day...
