y'see... i ride brakeless in the sense that I haven't touched my front brake in about two months but i still have a front brake fitted - it just makes me feel safer
i tried this before i actually went brakeless, its definitely not the same.
yeh cause you can go faster.
nope, not the same thing, even if the brake hasn't been touched, you're still riding knowing that you have a brake in front of you.
Point is, quite a lots of brakeless rider feel pretty safe.

he didn't say it was the same thing. I have a front brake that i hardly ever touch as well.
point is, there is no good reason not to have one there. in certain situations it just is safer. personal choice/preference is a good enough reason on its own, don't argue for 'brakless' on the grounds of safety ffs.
exactly my point - when i say i haven't touched it in two months... i'm glad it was there when i did need t touch it*
I'm sure lots of brakeless riders do feel safe, but I dont.*points for the first one t quote that out of context!

i don't think its even worth discussing really, it depends entirely on personal confidence/skill or whatever and is so subjective you can't set "rules" for it.
^ common sense.

+1 max
my personal preferance;
i don't feel confident riding no brakes, i therefore ride slower, smoother and safer, maybe i need to htfu but it ain't no competition for me, my bike certainly feels like it shouldn't have a brake on it, so i gotta go with that

My new project - just starting out. Be gentle.
Was looking for a well-used bit of 531 to build not-quite-a-beater-but-nothing-too-precious. Fell at the first hurdle.
It's a NOS 1979 Peugeot Compétition, the PKN10E model according to the internet. Thank you, internet. It's had a BB and headset in at some point but it's never had a pair of wheels attached. Just a couple of (inevitable) small paint chips on the bottom of the BB and rear dropouts.
Main triangle is 531. The PXN10E (Super Compétition) was all-531, this one has more ordinary stays and forks. Top of fork crown and bottom half of forks are chromed.
Plain Nervex lugs and cute decal.
It's like a very light lemon yellow pearlescent. It's a really nice colour, shit iPhone photos aren't doing it justice here (I'll take some decent ones when I get a chance).
So, yeah. I can't afford to deck it out in high-end parts (and it's hardly a high-end frame) so it will probably be Open Pros on Miche low-flange track hubs and stuff like seatpost and bars picked up on the cheap. Still thinking about the chainset.
My first thought was black saddle, tape and straps but the guy I bought it from mentioned that he was thinking about putting green wheels on it. Hmm, green, I thought. So green tyres and tape and maybe one of those green special edition BFF Concors when they become available. I have a black vintage Concor already for it in the meantime (or if I run out of cash). Incidentally, if anyone knows where to get green bar tape...? I UTFSed but didn't turn anything up yet.
Will post some pics when it's done.

mate that's a lovely frame, you don't need to spend big on fancy part, just choose the right looking part and you'll be fine.

fnckmesideways, geekhouse paint jobs are the toughest i have ever come across. gonna need about a ltr of nitromors, the blasters said they wouldn't be able to do it.........plastic coat, so the beads bounce off. and if the power is turned up, there is a big chance of damaging the tubes.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! -

I know. I'm feeling the pangs of guilt, believe me. Still haven't made my mind up 100%.

Murtle, was the original green were powdercoated in the first place?
your best option is a chemical bath, and I don't mean a bath fill of Bleach.
-
• #12920
it's a mix of powder for the base coat then a plasi-coat then laquers............i have used a small can already, done the forks and about 10% of the frame

Clefty: lovely!
gabes: needs suspension
murts: :Ono, kleins with suspension suck ass.
I see, I'm interested to see what it will be like with a brake fitted. Does this mean you won't be running a set of straps on it?
