  • I see it's all about the Kojaks these days.

  • They are quite leightweight for the 26x2.0 size, cheap, grip good, have good puncture protection and look boss. That said I'll switch to some tractor tires and singlespeed for the snowy/salty winter days.

  • Really nice that!

  • Thanks, it's quite a low budget build, but I think it might be a nice tourer one day. :)

  • Love this! *ponders kojaks for own build

  • Making the most out of what you got is HIGH END to me.

  • You could race that (with a pedal and tyre change obvs).

    I noticed this in @amey size (?) #dontfeedthebuyer

  • ha would've bought that if i hadn't bought this :)
1x11 is very decent .. just did a hilly Kent loop 60k, was fun. Never did Sram before either; hood shape is nice and works very well due to no front mech.

  • Get any fork with reasonable rake, around 45 mm. I haven't ridden a columbus tusk but I'm sure it's fine.

    @FredyCro that's really nice!

  • Grrr...damaged sug 75 threads, bike shop cleaned and thought still useable, but no. Crank not coming off.

Sort of beginners mistake you rather do on cheap cranks O_O Park tool has some tool worth a try...

  • Cheers for the advide, went for some Columbus Carve forks with 45mm rake. I'll let you know what they ride like when she's up and "running".

Also, can't decide if silver stem, bars and seatpost would look better then black? And trying to find subtle and tasteful modern parts is tricky. Be nice to avoid logos and colours all over the place.

  • Fitted new -17 130mm stem and 25c Open pavè for optimised comfort

  • Lovely Look. The height of those rims is just perfect, very classy. And those red cables do look good!

  • It can be fixed as I usually created a new thread and use a bigger crank extractor to removed it.

Any decent LBS should have such tools.

Done it numerous time due to old cheap chainset getting its thread stripped easily, save customer having to buy new chainset.

  • save customer having to buy new chainset.

So they just have to pay for the boring, threading and the new larger extractor? Seems like a new crank would be cheaper ;-)

  • New wheels : 24h Mavic CX18 on Campy record.

  • They don't, they just paid the bottom bracket labour charge.

The tools stay with us, if they want to extract it, we simply use our oversized crank puller.

It's easy, take me 10 minutes to removed.

  • Shush... its a sugino 75 ;)

For a cheap crank, yep, though won't somebody think of the bauxite :(

  • Collected this from Eyebrows this morning.

The urge to keep it in this set up was strong but it will be going back to its CX roots (but remaining singlespeed).

I've removed the rack and swapped the front wheel for an old campagnolo/open pro wheel I found in the shed. I've had a quick go at giving it a clean but it's never going to be pretty.
I'm thinking of going for tektro canti's and levers, deda compact drops. Need suggestions for tyres and I'm on the look out for some cheap cranks if anyone has anything?

  • Indeed.

Cheers guys, the frameset was a cast away in a bike lot in my friends student dorm. I am thinking about a straight fork and a a-head set up now, but have two other build to start so it will maybe have to put on hold for now.

Here it is with granny bars and magic gear.

  • I would;

    • cheap ebay schwalbes
    • keep the chainset
    • switch the back brake to a matching mini v and use decent road levers (Cane Creek or Trp if you can't find something used. I don't think Tektro still make any nice levers)

You're a bit limited with for dropbars with the quill stem. PlanetX sell ITM etc under 'Retro', so long as they're wide they'll do.

  • Cheers for the help,
Do those Rocket Rons only come in 35c? I don't think i'll have enough clearance to run much over 30c.
The chainset is functional but i'd quite like a road one over this, I might gear up slightly aswell so will be buying a new ring anyway.
I've got some Deda Piega's in a quill stem already but they are only 38cm, gonna go up to 44's if I can find any.

Has anyone got any recommendations for mini v's and road levers that work well together? Or canti's and levers that are worth considering?

  • TRP RRL + Shimano R463

  • Ive got this combo and it works fantastically in all weathers, powerful, easy to adjust/maintain, comfortable hoods. Don't even remotely feel the need for discs.
