  • Schwalbe CX Pro is the standard choice for tight steel cross frames.

Might as well go Alfine for cranks, cheapest from Rose Bikes as above.

Had Cantis, now got Mini Vs and wouldn't go back. Cheap Tektro levers and vs will be fine, maybe get some nicer pads.

  • Do those Rocket Rons only come in 35c?

Yeah, I think so. There are many cx tyres at 32mm but AFAIK none at 30mm.

    [edit] @umop3pisdn's got this [edit]

The chainset is functional but i'd quite like a road one over this...

For the narrow Q? If its square taper you can just use a shorter spindle BB (to an extent).

Has anyone got any recommendations for mini v's

These are strong and work with regular road lever cable pull and come TesterApproved™

  • Word.

If you tried to drag an MTB crank down to road-like Q, the chainring would hit the tyre :-)

  • You have nicer pads!

  • Which is why I'm suggesting upgrading from stock :)

  • Speakin of pads, anyone got recommendations.
Got some XTR V brakes but no pads. Best wet weather?

  • Not too clued up, but I've got a couple of different types of Clarks pads and they all seem good. KoolStop are probably decent too in wet weather. XTR Vs are super nice, got some fancy linkage system to keep the pad face parallel to the rim.

  • Tx, will give them a call.

Seems once there's some damage to threads, it's a swiss cheese job from there. Despite best efforts & thread cleaning, just won't go in straight. Well I've a spare crank set so all good.

  • yeah I am on fucking stock pads .. break well but makes rim dirtyyyyyy

@Dakin if you want super braking power in wet then swisstop, kind of overall Koolstop salmon; nice not that pricey. I need to get some for V brakes too.

  • Swissstop Blue when you can.

Koolstop Salmon are awesome, but wear out quicker (but kinder to your rims).

  • This has just arrived from FCI. Hoping to build it up for the track possibly. Thinking a mix of campagnolo and 3ttt finishing kit. :)

  • I've used some of the Koolstop mixed ones, half salmon half black.

Only used them in the dry so far, but they work well.

  • town bike

  • Need some new bar tape and a saddle for this... any thoughts on colour scheme?
Keep them black and simple or a bit more fun?

  • So ugly, yet somehow so great... I don't get it

  • Changed the tyres, added some mudguards, and a rear rack to the bike. Was really lucky that the mudguards matched the frame colour, as I was planning to paint them matte black otherwise.

  • love this oh so much.

  • Very nice - Looks very similar to mine!
I've always just gone with black/black, can't go far wrong...

  • Bolted some pieces on to this guy, chain tire and an hour away from rolling under steam but its cold so not today.

  • any thoughts on colour scheme?

With that frame colour and the bottle cages, I would be tempted to have red and blue cables if you want to inject some fun.

Saddle and tape I'd keep black. I can't think of any coloured tape that won't look gash with that pale yellow.

  • Agree with you and @Rik_Van_Looy on this 100%
Got bored and did some photoshopping today and nothing worked with the pale yellow creamy job...
