I know the feels. I had to have a massive think about it.
Personally. I would've splashed the cash if I had the Gr1s/v, simply because it'll near enough be a new camera. I know it's close to what you can spend on another one, but realistically speaking, you don't know how long that'll last either.
You're bang on though, it is quick work if you're methodical, I opened mine (it's complicated as fuck though. Gears everywhere) but the part is the problem. When it goes, it needs to be completely replaced, which is pretty much the whole shutter box.
I hear Ricoh Germany still repairs the V/S models.

Yeah, really annoying... there goes the little bit of extra money I have made freelancing recently...
Tempted to bin it and get the Hexar on here though? Thoughts? Bigger which is a shame... but... I like the fact the lens doesnt retract... -
• #7855
Hahahahahaha. In same position as you then I guess. Last cheque was shite though.
I say think on it.Don't start on that Hexar, because I've had that page open for 3 days now. The F2 lens (shit loads of debate that it's better then Leica's own summicron) combined with the silent mode makes me itch really. Built like a tank too, so if you're not gentle on cameras, the retractable lens won't be a liability.
I'd personally haggle, since there's a near mint one on eBay atm for £280, though saying that, I'm not a fan of buying off of there.

Oh man... you are making me want it even more.
Yeah I'm fulltime PAYE but do a few cheeky freelance jobs for pals for pocket money, except no one has bloody paid me so I dont have a spare penny atm... so can't do anything. Very annoying.Might buy the Hexar if you don't/its still about, I want it as a "kick about in my bag" camera.

HA! yeah I'm just starting to learn to say no to "favours".
It's a really great camera no doubt and a pleasure to use from what time I spent with it, but it still depends what you do with it and how happy you are to use it as a daily. Despite being fast, I preferred using it in a slow/considered way, so I didn't burn through film needlessly. I guess being slightly bigger was the cause.
One day I will own one for sure, but in the meantime, I'm the opposite, I want something a little more speedy and compact. I have a fetish for minimalism/carry only the bare essentials.
So I'm probably going to end up with another GR1.

Few 35ti's kicking about below 200 on ebay but from Japan... worth the import etc?
-

If you have good camera shops around you, eBay should be your last resort.
Yea I meant watch sold items, as in: see what prices they go for.

http://www.butkus.org/chinon/yashica/yashica_t4_super/yashica_t4_super.htmThank you, this one I saw though; was wondering if T4 super is really the same as T4 in these aspects.

My girlfriend just got me a Yashica T3 super from ebay as an early birthday present. However, even though it turns on, it says the battery is dead even though it's full (tested in store) and, thus, it won't try to wind the film or respond to me pressing the shutter release button.
I can and will return it if I can't get it to work, but to avoid the hassle does anyone know how to fix this problem/best way to fix the contacts? (they seem clean, there's definitely no battery corrosion, the camera is in near mint apart from this battery problem and the seller said it didn't have it when he shipped it)

Yeah man, the 35ti is an awesome camera. I have one and an gr1 and I defo prefer the 35ti it's just a bit heavier and the smallest bit larger but is built more solidly and has a truly fantastic meter. Lens sharpness is just as good if not better. I bring the gr1 on the rides and the 35ti out to dinner haha.

^^^You've pretty much summed it up with the last sentence.
It is however, in the grand scheme of it belonging to the compact range, not a very user friendly camera. The meter is great, but its bloody ancient (same as Leica M3's from yonks ago) compared to anything of its time. The spot metering requires constant compensating, which makes it slow to use. Hence why it's considered by many to be an 'artisan' camera. -

On the topic of point & shoots..
..found pictures of a nice collection from somebody on the pentax forums - -

Love this big minis. Mines on its last legs. So what should I go for? Hexar a for 35ti? Leaning towards hexar, want something that can take a knock or two and is always ready to fire. Will miss the gr1s size though...
-
• #7866
The fact that the Hexar maxes out at 1/250 would really be putting me off.
-
• #7867
Yeah that's what worries me. But then do I really need to shoot faster? Will I have to be careful with what film speed I use?
-
• #7868
Well if you end up shooting in sunlight with 200 speed film you'll probably have to be down around f16.
-
• #7869
Well, only you know what you actually want to shoot with it mostly.
If it's a lot of fast-ish moving stuff, like running kids etc. then you may have a problem regardless of film used.. -
• #7870
There's no camera on earth that can capture running kids.
Most people wouldn't notice the difference between 250th and 1000th anyway. Leica has a max of 1000. I've yet to hear a street fiend complain about that. All the camera does is compensate, which I think is very cool.Tina is bang on though, see if Indra would let you have a play with the 35ti and see if you like that.

Think about this next time the sun comes out and you've got ASA 400 or higher loaded..

Pfft. Just like the moon landing, I don't believe the D4 exists. Wild and exciting fantasies like that don't happen. Next you'll be telling me to ride a bike without brakes. Madness.

For sure, you a Londoner Chris?
Once I finish off the provia I probably won't use it until I can afford more DX coded film. -
• #7875
That would be amazing and yes I am. I really don't understand camera stuff, I'm really thick with it, but I know how I like to take snaps and how I like them to look so if a certain camera let's me achieve said snaps then it's a winner...
From what more cleverer people above are saying am I right in thinking is need to errr on the side of faster film if I were to buy the hexar? 160 speed?
But thanks.
Whats the good camera shop near new oxford street that sells s/h stuff? Leicas and the like...
edit: Apature, had one for 170 quid. Just got a quote of £189 plus VAT!!!! FUCK THAT. Fuck that price. Its about 30 mins work I bet.
