  • What's considered "semi decent"? I know nothing about light meters but I think I could do with one.

  • Mine's got an attachment to do spot metering as well as incident/reflective metering. Spot is super useful for slide film as its way more accurate. I tend to spot meter everything from the place I'm taking the photo from, work out exposure from that. Think it's an L328.

EDIT: Just realised what a good deal I got it for now, according to eBay prices

  • Yeah, my friend swears by his cheap jessops own brand meter so I guess it's best to worry about accuracy over brand.

Kodak has killed off its 3200 speed film.

  • ^ The cull continues...

  • ^^ DOP friend of mine told me about working with another guy who tended to shoot stuff very dark and moody. Was only when they metered something together they realised the readings were 2 stops apart. Whether your style comes down to intentional or inaccurate equipment is another question, but does bring up the point of being sure what you're reading is somewhere near right. Wouldn't want to be the guy trashing 1000ft+ of 35mm...

  • Looks like my friend may actually sell me his SQAi with metered prism and quick grip (for cheap too!).

Rather excited as he pulled out on selling it a month or two back. I was gonna spend my paycheck on clothes but fuck that - there's a camera to be bought.

  • the cheapest and probably the lightest exposure meter lies right behind the viewfinder and between your ears.

  • tl;dr.

Actually, last winter I took a friends Hasselblad to Spain.
He had a meter, I think it was an old 'Gossen' one, but I didn't trust it, especially in low light.
I did carry a fuckin' Canon 1000D along with the Hassi for the rest of the trip just for metering.

I think it was on the last day of my trip that I realised there's an iPhone-app that can do the job.
The one I have is called 'Luxmeter', it isn't very pretty, but it's free, and it does work!

  • The sunny 16 rule works like a boss. Taken some favourites with a dead camera.

  • Fucking photos. Haven't got a proper good shot out of what... 5 rolls? So frustrating.

  • I am feeling your pain. I have a few shots I'm fairly happy with queued up in tumblr but I foresee a dry spell happening pretty soon. I guess that was kind of the point of starting one though. A kick up the bum to get out there and take more photos...

  • Yeah that was the whole idea with thedailylind.tumblr.com but that's run dry too. Just not feeling it at the moment. Le sigh.

  • I need to spend less time on ebay bidding for cameras and more time using the ones I actually have. I think there might be something wrong with me.

  • No no no. It's all about the camera. MORE CAMERAS PLEASE.

No but honest, the next one I but, that'll be the one.

  • To be honest, the hit rate on your daily blog is really good. Don't lose faith after a few bad rolls - we've all been there!

  • AG photographic have opened a lab.

    c41 dev is £3.00, e6 is £4.50 + £4 with ~18mb scans

  • that looks pretty good!

  • Erm. that turned out a little bigger then I expected. Apologies :P

  • Wow, first one is beautiful.

  • So my lens broke whilst in my suitcase on sunday..........

  • First one is so fucking nice.

What did you shoot it on? 6x7?

  • Thanks Macready and Nefarious. Yes, it was shot with a Mamiya 7 and 50mm. I was quite lucky with the conditions that day. The next night after that, I was convinced that my tent was going to be blown into a reservoir with me still in it.

  • So my lens broke whilst in my suitcase on sunday..........

    What a nightmare. What lens?

  • I have some serious lust for a 7.
