  • About to list 18 rolls of medium format ektachrome films on the bay. Expiry date 2003 and 1999 but always kept in fridge.

Any takers before I list? No price in mind yet, but will be good

  • Right then, chemicals. Is any better than others? Ilford better than kodak? I'm mainly shooting HP4 so thinking I should stick to Ilford all the way through, is that good thinking? Does price differ a lot? Don't mind paying up a bit more if results are better

I may be interested, what kind of price were you thinking?

  • They're already sold! They went within 5 mins on ebay so my BIN price was obviously too low...

All depends what look you're after, get experimenting!

  • of course!

Thinking I should start with everything from ilford to minimise eventual errors to start with. Rolls are too valuable to mess up so want to avoid as many pitfalls as possible.

  • Wouldn't worry about matching chemicals really. I'll send you a little undiluted tmax fix to get you moving.

Incidentally, I developed some two stop pushed film in rodinal 1+100 the other day, really impressed with it. Doesn't seem that contrasty really, barely looks pushed. Anybody else doing it?

  • ah cool, cheers, much appreciated!

  • This is a useful resource if your self developing your b&w:

    http://filmdev.org/

has developing "recipes" linked to photos on flickr, you can search by film and developer.

  • A friend has just moved to Kingston. Is there anywhere nearby he can buy darkroom kit he couldn't bring with him?

  • Biggest 2nd hand place would be Mr Cads in Croydon. An Aladdins cave for all things photographic
    http://mrcad.co.uk/

  • ^that place looks absolutely amazing

  • Thanks; surprised I've not heard of it before

  • I just bought lovely Olympus Pen half frame camera and wanna come back to analog photography. What is your favour color and b&w negative. If you have a non photoshoped picture samples that would help.
    Thanx

  • What do you care what others favourites are - the question is what you're after.

If you can answer that one might recommend suitable stuff.

  • just check on flickr what films you like, most people there tag their photos with film+camera so it's a great resource

  • I think it's a bit misleading to judge analogue film by looking at scans of negatives that are (maybe) edited by the uploader, altered by flickr algorythms, and viewed on god knows what kind of monitor / screen.
    Well it's a start.
But I'd rather visit a local lab and have them show me 'real life' examples.

  • I'm looking for vivid live colours fine grain but not below 100iso in b&w small grain, wide grayscale 100iso and large grain, high contrast 400iso. And that's all mainly for street photography.

..or some other proper iso100 film, pushed to 400 or 800,
shot with orange/red filter, harshly developed.

These are just quick thoughts, though - there are hundred other possibilities that might suit your needs better.

  • Really like this.

  • Quick newbie qustion for the heads: where can I get a decent album, a physical one, where I can store/display my photos, has a place for captions etc.

  • thanx Tina Kino

  • Does anyone have any experience of analogue meters in low light? I don't want to spend over a hundred notes on a digital one because it'll barely get any use. Just wary over how good an older one will be in the dark.

  • I've got one of these bad boys

Has a moon on it so must be good in the dark. Seriously though, used it quite a few times and it worked well, even in dusk.

  • I got a semi decent digital Sekonic off eBay for less than 30bones, keep your eyes peeled
