  • thing is, glass is everywhere on London's roads.
Avoiding it *all *the time is impossible.
hence why Rubinos suck, cos one shard rips it straight.
Fact is im still pisssed off about the Rubinos i had, so i might be a little biased.

Rubinos doesn't suck frankly, all tyres are not inpregnable, I just got a tiny glass that managed to dug it's way into my Schwalbe Stelvio Plus after coming into contact with one while riding (didn't notice till the tyres went down).

does that mean my Stelvio Plus is shit? no, just unlucky (and it stood up pretty well during the last 4 months riding brakeless and still have bits of life in them).

another thing - check your tyres if there's any glass in them, they can easily be missed, also did you have another puncture in the same place?

  • I've found I get much more life out of my tyres now I regularly glove them after a ride and glue up cuts every couple of weeks or so - got the last tip from reading these boards :-)

  • I never knew you New Zealanders could be so masculine!
Anyway, with the amount of miles you've done, and tyres you've ridden, I think its time you post a review for real. You're the last poster anyway.
Then I'll take back the nationality insult.
    :) :D

I appear to have been drunk(er than usual) when writing that. The general point holds though and anyway I was born in Wellington.

  • rubino's as far as i could see had no puncture resistance in them at all... they are completely an utterly awful.

    Reality fail.

  • i swear it's people not tyres when it comes to punctures. here's a tip, don't ride through glass and pump you tyres up.

Holy shit.. he speaks the truth!

Thousands of miles completed on various Rubino and Rubino Pro tyres with only the odd puncture. You can knock the grip factor on cheaper Rubino but don't talk bollocks about their puncture resistance.. they kill most other tyres of the same weight and for a LOT less £££.

    hippy's tyre tip for today:

Checking your tyres for embedded glass is a good way to kill time waiting at long timed red lights.

  • Reality fail.

hmm, no, simply my reality is the Rubino's suck, they failed me, not the other way round.

  • i rate them highly as well.

  • hmm, no, simply my reality is the Rubino's suck, they failed me, not the other way round.

it's still a reality fail when more than half the people swear by them, just because you have two puncture in one day doesn't necessary mean the tyres is shit, it mean you're just unlucky at the time.

I have a puncture today, because a big glass cut through my tyres, it could've happen 4 months ago when I got the tyres or next months, tyres are not impregnable.

Actually I never have a puncture using Continental Ultra Sport for 6 months in London's famous London, and that tyres not only known to be a bit shit but a puncture magnet as well, based on my experience I might as well claim that the Ultra Shit is an puncture proof tyres.

  • they are the only tyres that i've ever puctured Ed. I had them on the bike for a week only and 4 punctures and 2 late Uni practicals later, i wasnt happy whatsoever with them.

If someone asked me if they are any good i would steer them away from the regular Rubino's, since i havent tried Rubino Pro (they might be more up to the job).

What's this "reality fail" bullshit.. Honestly.

  • Dylan fail.

  • What's this "reality fail" bullshit.. Honestly.

    exactly like this;

    Dylan fail.

  • fucking hell guys you are such wind up merchants.

  • that we are!

  • Just don't ride in the gutter. Let cars clear the shit from the road and ride where they've cleared.

  • I've got a herniated Soma Everwear, Dale spotted it! Apparently TheCrane had the same problem with his... Mine's going straight back to Tokyo Fixed Gear, it's only two months old (if that) FFS!?! Probably just be a bad batch tho'... :/

  • Can't believe you like Conti Ultra Sports Ed, worst tyre I've ever had the misfortune of shelling out cash for... I may as well just ride on inner tubes AFAIC... Total crap... Rubinos are OK, great for the price in fact, but they do wear out fast...

  • i use 700 x 28 armidilos as winter tyres and theyre fine, if a bit heavy.

Hey, I didn't says I like that tyres, I just hasn't had any puncture with it for 6 months, it came with the bike in the first place, so I might as well run the tyres down until it reach to the point that it need replacing.

I was using the Ultra Sports as an example of tyres that are the exact opposite of puncture resistance, but yeah it's a shit tyres.

  • Oh... OK then... :]

  • Agreed, Ultra Sports are crap.

They're not grippy, yet are shit to skid (compared with vittoria).

But... I'll use them on the rear wheel of my Peugeot as they only cost me £3.50 each.

    Poor man's tyres!

What's this "reality fail" bullshit.. Honestly.

    I have punctured:
    Vittoria Rubino's
    Vittoria Rubino Pro's
    Vittoria Open Corsa's
    Vredenstein Fortezza TriComp's
    Schwalbe Ultremo's
    Schwalbe Stelvio's
    Michelin Lithion's
    Conti Ultra Gatorskin..

So all these tyres must be crap.. ;)

  • I have punctured:
Rubino Pro - nail straight through tire
Conti Ultra Sport - shit tire

    Not yet:
    Conti Top Touring 2000 - (4000 miles)
    Schwalbe Marathon plus - (heavy)
Michelin Krylion Carbon - road bike
Specialized Roubaix Pro - track bike
    Vittoria Randonneour - beater

  • An element of luck has to come into this. The day you get a puncture by riding over a certain object would be the day most tyres would puncture wouldn't it? I only get a handful a year so on those days I would probably have got one whether using a Rubino, GP4000 etc,.

(With exception of heavy tractor tyres such as Marathon Plus)
