    What about Smartwool?

if they can do it, can't we?

    Chris

  • If only it were that easy Object, they block Proxys as well. We're owned by a large bank and share their email system, needless to say their usage policy is pretty tight.

It's not the same sort of thing though, I think the jerseys are quite a bit thicker than that, have rear pockets and front zips and are designed to be worn with only a base underneath for enough warmth for most winter weather.

  • Fair enough.

    I'm still in!

  • The red X would be all to subtle.

    I meant more like this...

Use the lettering from the Rabbit T-shirt on the band and keep it simple...

  • mulesing. not ideal, but better than the alternative (sheep infested with maggoty arses). there you go, a utilitarian ethical argument.

the flies are fucking brutal in rural australia. go and spend 10 minutes on a farm there and see for yourself. the farmers don't do it just to be cruel, it costs them a lot of time and effort and they do it to prevent their sheep becoming diseased.

but this is a cycling forum, and not the place for pointscoring about each other's ethical choices. play on.

I'm not convinced that the two are mutually exclusive - but I'm a pet-owning, leather-wearing carnivore, so for those reasons I'm out...

  • I'm out...

    Of what?

  • the ethical debate.

i think wool is more ethical than synthetic fabrics made in chemical factories owned by multinational corporations. apart from the fact that merino is awesome stuff.

  • Of what?

    The closet.

    Agreed.

  • I wear baby skin coats in the winter. Soft and warm. You do have to be careful when washing though, use a wool cycle and only spin gently.

  • Of what?

    The animal rights debate...

  • The animal rights debate...

    Cool :-)

  • @Benanza, that's shabby dude. Hope it's worth the wait.
@Plantini, I agree with you on man-made fibres but how is cotton man made?

  • @Plantini, I agree with you on man-made fibres but how is cotton man made?

    With science.

  • how is cotton man made?

On looms - but not in Lancashire anymore. :-(

  • Cotton. Massive fields of the stuff grown and processed.

Silk. The chrysalis of a silk worm is literally unwound and the woven together.

All materials take a massive amount if processing in the end via one form or another. In Australia cotton growing is a big industry. It does require very large areas of land (hence why oz is good for it) but also requires a fair amount of irrigation I think. Lots of Oz farmers having been having trouble of late due to no rain for years in some regions. Cotton is not gown anywhere local in Europe to my knowledge.

  • cotton industry ethics: http://www.ethicsgirls.co.uk/organiccotton

there's no such thing as ethical consumption without withdrawing from society and only using what you grow yourself... so IMHO it's just a matter of where you draw the line.

  • Just be aware that ACF or the C+ forum did group buy from Portland.
The sizes were odd, the delivery took forever (surface mail or something daft), the prices ended up being quite steep and the guy who organised it was lucky to come out flat broke from a lot of hassle.

Too bad Cafe press don't do cycling shirts, then it would be so easy!

  • Thanks for the info Alex, I don't think that Portland are the best option, 'twas merely for example purposes. Getting the things there is going to cost big time, tax will add a lot to the final price and getting any come back from a site in the US, should there be any problems, is not going to be that easy.

  • some links here http://www.ultracycling.com/equipment/wool.html

nothing other than portland that seem to do custom jobs though.

    This looks possible http://www.woolistic.com/

  • I emailed Woolistic a while ago, I'm waiting to hear back about their bulk pricing etc. I'll let everyone know when they come back to me.

Yep. Unwound by boiling the poor bastards alive.
