Looks like a 40 milliwatt to me, unless you have a small gas turbine inside the control box ;)

Any updates on the HHSP? (Hip-Hop Slave Post)
It's dead !
:S
:O
:(
Flickers in and out of consciousness, the lead that attaches to the power supply gives off tiny sparks and little puffs of smoke (must be shorting out) every now and then.
I will bury her in the garden this week in a private funeral, it will be a sombre affair, just me and the cat, afterwards I am going to get pissed up on booze and run amok in the neighbourhood, then home for a pasta based dish.
Stuff already ordered for HHSP2™

Any update on Hip Hop Slave Sabre 2?
Been occupied with this whole 'survive the recession without going bankrupt' thing - but I have all the parts for HHSS2™ in a box on my desk - still need to slim the inverter/power down small enough to slide down the seat tube / seat post - also need to sort out the way the power is connected to the post to stop it shorting out (it shorts out 'properly' with little sparks and even little bits of smoke as it's DC rather than AC !) basically just need to make it more robust, the very first test died after a couple of weeks but the last couple of prototypes lasted for months (with careful handling) - shouldn't be too difficult.

i love this seatpost thing. just a quick thought regarding patenting it, kind of agree with you that it's not necessarily a patentable idea in itself because of the fact you're applying two existing technologies to each other blah de blah. however, surely a component manufacturer would sell shedloads of these if for instance there was a way for the powerpack to live inside the seat post and the film itself could be made more water/world resistant? even from an aesthetics point of view, that post would look shitloads better than have knogs all over your bike. that said, what would i know, my bike is anti-porned out of the box!

Broadly speaking, new combinations of known technologies are not patentable (i.e. torch on a slipper = new (at least I've not seen one), but obvious - each functions as you would expect). This is the case here - seat post plus EL film = EL seatpost. Seat post still functions as seatpost, EL film lights it up. No surprises there.
However, there could well be something inventive in how you manage to get the inverter inside the seatpost - this is solving a very specific technical problem. Likewise, other details around the main concept could be entitled to patent protection.
BUT, if you publish your idea (such as on this forum) before applying for a patent then it would be invalid. So, if you were to consider protecting this or any future ideas, my advice would be to keep the details secret until you had an application on file.

It's currently water resistant, it's just my endless messing around with it that caused it's death.
But you are right, it would be trivial (and cheap) for a component manufacturer to design a seatpost with an EL surface and power source inside the post.
. . . even from an aesthetics point of view, that post would look shitloads better than have knogs all over your bike.
You can't say that, Knogs are the Aerospoke of bike lighting, if you keep that kind of talk up there will be a hipster squad sent out to whack you.

Possilbe solution??
http://www.theglowcompany.co.uk/acatalog/EL_WIRE_GLOW_WIRE_PRODUCTS.htmlGlow spray paint = a little bit rubbish, even the expensive stuff.
Glow wire = excellent stuff, I have a couple of boxes of it in various colours, super bright, easy to chop up and play around with.
