Dunno if this ever went any further, but I wanted to revisit it.
Rather than batteries and inverters and stuff, how about an AC hub dynamo with a cable running over a spoke to a deep V rim. Plaster the rim with EL tape and surely Kevin Flynn will try to cut you up at every right turn from then on in?
