James, the chevron thread was a passing fancy. It would have sunk without trace after a day or two. The Football Thread is one of the most active on this whole forum. You may not like it. Others certainly do and it has built a strong community within the forum as a whole. People exchange banter there and are sometimes seemingly offensive to each other but generally in a pleasant and respectful way.
In the same way as Pisti and others should avoid the Depression thread, you should respect and avoid the Football thread.
People come to this forum for many reasons. One is enjoyment. Even if you don't like or understand the subject matter of those other people's enjoyment, don't constantly seek to deprive them of it.

James. I am not sure what this means. If you don't look in the football thread you will remain blissfully ignorant of everything said there and will be happier for it. I don't think anyone on the football thread wanted a response from you in any way.
Why not leave it?

There is so much wrong with this.
More than a year later I'm back to wanting to smash together heads of apparent children.
The whole thing is just a face palm.
Fundamentally this community lives of dies by the people in it showing respect and tolerance for each other because we share a common interest and we understand that by being together and working together we achieve more than the sum of our parts, and ultimately that benefits us individually.
Just because one person is rubbing you up the wrong way, it does not give you any justification for not having the necessary respect to exist peacefully within it.
How do I explain in simple enough terms that people understand: If you don't treat the place with respect then don't expect it to be here. You, the people within the community, have the ability to make or break the community. But play carefully, for the wider community may defensively react to your actions and in self-preservation reject you instead.
Understand that, understand it deeply.

Well, since you have just reported pisti for a post in the football thread, I will say what I was going to:
It doesn't fucking matter what someone else does, it doesn't begin to justify your behaviour.
There is no 'response' to something someone else does, there is only what you do.
It's so incredibly childish I feel angry at having to even type this out.
It's as if someone stole your toy when you were 3 years old, and in response you think it's reasonable to steal his back, and then smash up all his others too.
Not only is the response childish, but the disproporationality [sic] of that response leaves the creche nannies wondering if they're witnessing a future psychopath at work.
Holy fuck james, grow up.
I only single you out because you seem so vocal in your incapability to understand your own childishness. But it's not like it was just you. There's a whole bunch of nappy wearing people on this site who I largely think that the majority of the forum would prefer to see the back of.
If anyone's net contribution to a community is the creation of drama... expect everyone to run out of patience pretty soon.
I feel like, with you, Pisti and others, I've shown the patience of a saint. But shoot me now if this is what I have to go through every time the nights close in or you've got the urge to disrupt for a moment.
And throughout this post, and the last post... they may have been replies to your posts, but these are general things. They apply to all people on the site, in the community.
If you don't show, in every action, a decent amount of respect for the community at large... expect the community to eventually reject you.
So to all those involved, it remains the same message, I remain the very patronising dictator... grow up.
And if this post hasn't put things to bed, then let it be known that more naive verbal outburst are likely to trigger banhammer. Because it's late, and I want a good nights sleep, and a stress free weekend... and isn't that was this is for? This website... isn't it common shelter through our love for cycling... a sanctuary away from the shit in life? Yeah? Yeah, I think so.
