Time Atac Pedals

  • Cleats in wrong shoe?

Doesn't seem to be. About how long to ATAC cleats usually last?

  • My current pair have been on for ~8 months.

  • The number of TIME pedals that required maintenance on this topic is rather alarming.

Most of the problems are to do with the dust caps. Tighten them regularly and the pedals don't make funny noises and they don't come off. If they come off, the pedal slides around, and and a year or so back Time stopped making replacement dust caps easily available - I suspect because they only cost a couple of quid and would keep the pedals going for years more, and they'd make more money from people replacing the whole pedal instead of just the dust caps, particularly cos it costs quite a bit to send them to Time to get them replaced.

Thanks for the help. Looks like a little maintenance is in order before I make any rash financial decisions

  • Is the side that's giving you trouble the one you unclip from if you put your foot down at traffic lights?

  • I have these. One of the springs on the left pedal (the side I unclip the most) has come loose and rattles, making a clicking noise. It doesn't look like the spring has snapped, and the pedal still holds tension, so it's not too worrying (and I'm on a CX bike with brakes), it's the annoying rattling / clicking noise that is the problem. Is this servicable?

  • they are very serviceable... http://www.cyclistno1.co.uk/features/maintenance/time-atac-pedal-overhaul.htm

try that and then take the springs off as well

  • can you buy the covers separately?

  • At some point you probably could. Doubt they still make them though.

  • What does the underside of the plates look like?

  • ATAC SYSTEM (Mastery of easy engagement and release)

    Fuck yeah son

  • Anyone got some old style (like below) ATAC pedals with fuxxored body or springs?

I was trying to do bearings in mine and have broken a plastic washer/spacer that's pretty essential.

  • I cracked a spring in my pedals so am after a replacement, are they available anywhere?

  • Ed have a browse through here http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/177/pedal-spares.htm someone on Mtbr said they had luck

  • Nice one, thanks Apollo

  • My Rocs feel loose as a goose after about two years of moderate use. Nearly new cleats, tension on full, L&R swapped but I still feel like I'm standing on ice cubes. I realize they're not designed for childish fixie skidding but hey.

They're too expensive to replace this often and I'm sick of doing the one legged figure skater dance when I accidentally unclip going downhill, so I'm considering moving back to the cheap n cheerful Shimano M520's.

  • Just replace the springs for under a tenner, atacs skid way better than spuds.

  • Speak to coventry eagle, he does some sort of Time pedal repair business.

  • Mine really need a spring replacement... another thing on the todo

  • Just replace the springs for under a tenner, atacs skid way better than spuds.

Or a new pedals with cleat for under £20.

Meh, they both work fine brakeless, just spds are much more reliable in the long term.

I do. But they they fully functional and sitting in my random bits box. If you can't work out the spacer issue drop me a PM.

I'm not sure, I've gone through 2 or 3 sets of cleat before my springs needed replacing with the times, annoyingly my spuds springs wore out well before the cleats. I just prefer the ride of times anyway because I like how the float feels.

  • It's just ed being ed. statistically, I'd go as far as saying most of the negatively vocal cases he's heard of regarding time's are on this forum. If you magically compare total number of failures between spd's and times, I'm sure you'll find atac's have a lower failure number.
