  • A lower failure number but I doubt there's really a lower failure rate. I've ridden time, spud, spudsl and keo. I found that for general and city riding times were nicer but for track the difference in feel between keys and spudsl was negligible.

FWIW I've damaged 2 time pedals in 2 years and no spuds in just under a year of use. Still prefer atacs though.

  • So wtf is the deal with the XC2, are they or aren't they adjustable?

I've seen both arguments stated categorically, in this thread and the wider internets!

You can see the adjustment screw (or what serves as the adjustment screw on my Rocs) in the product photos so I'm thinking they are adjustable...

  • I have them and they're not. It's a rivet rather than an adjustment screw.

  • Bastards! I may have to try a DIY re-tension of the springs in my Rocs tonight.

  • Thanks for reply btw

  • No worries. XC2 seem to just be re-branded rocs. I've had no issue with mine yet in terms of tension.

  • I do. But they they fully functional and sitting in my random bits box. If you can't work out the spacer issue drop me a PM.

Cheers for the offer but I don't really want to break up a good pedal to fix this one. I picked up another set on ebay for mucho cheapness the other day so that's me got a set for all the bikes I want them on and a full set minus that one collar of spares if I need it.

FWIW if anyone is looking at the older ATACs then Ithink the ones with the metal collar a-la -

    • would be easier to work on and possibly more reliable.
  • regret selling the yellow ones i had to TM, they just didnt match any of my bikes

  • Cheers for the offer but I don't really want to break up a good pedal to fix this one.

No problem. Glad it's all sorted.

  • Sorry if it's already been covered but what's the difference between XC2 and XC4?

  • having a quick look at merlin it seems to be the "bioperformance" system, whatever that is?

i have a pair of new xc2's for sale by the way if anyone's interested

  • have they got tension adjustment screws sirbikealot?

  • This one factor seems to make then a bugger to sell tm, so yes! Yes they do!

To be honest I can't say for 100% but having just watched a Merlin cycles video with all of them in they don't just a dud bolt where it could be, so possibly the threads are there just a dud for a bolt?

  • they don't just a dud bolt where it could be, so possibly the threads are there just a dud for a bolt?

    I beg your pardon?

  • Where the adjustment bolt should be, xc2s just have what looks like a rivet.

  • ^that

In hindsight I worded that very poorly

  • Yeah, no adjustment on my XC2s. Having been riding them for a few weeks and enjoying them a lot so far, I want to replace the SPD-SL pedals on my other bike. Is the tension adjustment something that'll come in handy as the pedals wear? So far I've had no problems at all with the tension.

  • Anyone need some spare parts?

I'm starting my spring clearout soon and have these for spares or repairs:

... one of these standard jobbies:

Decided not to service my pedals in the end so if anyone want them give me a shout.

The springs are still in good condition. Quite a bit of wear to the paint. Missing one cap. And they slide on the spindle.

  • Possibly, how much/UK postage possible? Will need to check parts bin so see which bits are broken on the ones I have this evening.

  • ^ someone's already got provisional dibs.

I could post but it would be at cost. I was only thinking of a nominal sum really.

  • Ok, well if they change their mind let me know :)

  • Andy - hopefully I'll be picking these up on Wednesday. I'm only after the springs so if you let me know what components you need I'll try and post them to you.

  • That'd be sweet, will have a look at the ones I've got tonight and let you know

  • where have people bought replacement springs? one of mine has snapped.

i can only find them on ebay

  • Extra UK should have some. Get your LBS to order it.
